A long Kauai Trip Report

Thanks Sarah, for the details about the kayaking. Apparently the home we're renting is in just the right spot, we kind of knew about the campers, so this house is near the other end of the beach road. Hoping the debris is gone...the neighbor rents kayaks, we understand, so that will make that sunset idea fun, even if it has to be Anini instead of Hanalei.

Joan that was natural debris not floating trash we saw. People rave about Anini so I think what I saw was remnants of a storm or something. Know a severe storm took place 1-2 weeks before we came. Lighthouse tour told us it killed a lot of bird life on the reserve. We were looking for rental brochures when we were on Anini, looks like a nice little community.
We saw many more locals here and it let us know we were in Hawaii you can forget that in Hanalei everyone seems to be white. When we were there an 80 year old couple born and raised on Kauai sat down next to us. I told my sister they were here before statehood (think they were of Japanese Ancestory), either could have possibly had a mother who was a picture bride or worked in the cane fields. We did not fish for stories from them but there talk with us was different from the West Coast transplant from California. I appreciate this. Was happy to give my sister this exposure to Kauai.
