800-mile each way certificate
Greetings!
Anyone up for helping with a little puzzle:
1. I have a certificate for a free 800-mile each way trip only on United (and not any of its partners);
2. I would prefer to fly from the Balto-Washington Airport (or the newly named Thurgood Marshall BWI Airport), but would consider Dulles or Phila or maybe even NYC if something's really great;
3. I would like it to be for a solo long weekend, preferably in the next month or so;
4. I would like to avoid families, espeically those with shreiking children;
5. I don't really hike or trek, but don't mind nature in relatively small doses, as long as it doesn't require too much physical exertion. I do like pools and water, urban areas, too;
6. So, where would you send me?!
Many thanks for any responses!
Ellen

Hmm, you want to use it in the next month and don't want kids around. That's tough since it's the beginning of summer family travel.
Does is have to be a non-stop flight? AA has something similar and it has to be non-stop.
Can you go to Canada? I'd suggest something there like Montreal, QC, or Toronto.
Best suggestion I have is take the map and draw a circle 800 miles from the airports and see what appears.

Don't know United routes but places that I'd like to go with either nice beach/pool or urban and not a lot of kids for the next month using the 800 miles as a limit rather than a goal are Bermuda, New Orleans, Savannah, Charleston, Chicago.

I don't think UA flies to Bermuda. They do codeshare with USAir.
I would look north. Quebec City gives you a little of everything. Beautiful surroundings, a wonderful walled in city. Unfortunately UA does not fly there either, so you would need to fly into Montreal and take a train (about 3-4 hours). Maybe split between Montreal (a great city) and few days in Quebec.
Milwaukee is a great summer city. Also, a short day trips from the city give you many different options. Nature, one of the best Spas in the country in Kohler, Wisconsin.
South Carolina - You could choose between ocean or mountains, as well as some great historical cities.
Have a great trip, wherever you end up going!

If it's got to be on United metal, and if it's total miles, i.e., counting connection points, then your choices from BWI, PHL, or even DCA are pretty limited. Like, lousy. IAD is better, but UA doesn't have a lot of shorthaul traffic from there, and, sadly most of it is in regional jets or smaller. My suggestion would be to go either to Montreal, then rent a car and go to Quebec City, or fly to Boston and head to Portsmouth, or into Maine, or the Berkshires if you want nice scenery. If you haven't been to Quebec City, you ought to make a point of getting there IMO.

thanks for great ideas!
re: Kohler, I spent 6 weeks of my life in Sheboygan for work, right next door, but I had forgotten about Kohler as desintination. I really love Wis., Milw, too, so that's a very great suggestion.
considered a drive to get to an aiport other than BWI, but I somehow forgot to think about getting a car at my destination and going from there.
that makes it a different ballgame. anyway, thanks for these ideas and I'm off to check distances....
