8 yr old needs activities in nyc and phila!
i am in charge of my niece for 2 weeks. she bores easily. she loves
math problems etc. what kinds of activities would challenge and
delight such a person? i am new at this. she loves the spongebob show.
I have taken her to several movies but the choices are violence, sex,
sex, violence. she needs interesting things to do. i thought that new
yorker magazine had a special section for children's activities in
nyc. i was wrong. if you can provide any suggestions that don't
include the bronx zoo or the central park zoo i would love to hear.
thanks in advance.

also in NYC-- NY Hall of Science (in Queens, but easily accessible by subway and a walk of about 3 blocks)--really huge place with regular and special exhibits and demonstrations., Sony Wonder Technology Lab in midtown--lots of computer/video stations that teach technology using familiar topics. Free, but reservations advised on wekends and holidays

Try taking her to Canal street, the hustle the bustle definitely not boring.
Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.
Find a playground, the one by The Metropolitan Museum of Art is nice. You might want to visit the museum with the promise of a playground.
Try window shopping, my daughter loves it in the City.

John, try New York magazine (the Cue section in the back), *not* The New Yorker. You can also go online at www.nymag.com. Hope this helps.
