8 yr old needs activities in nyc and phila!
i am in charge of my niece for 2 weeks. she bores easily. she loves<BR>math problems etc. what kinds of activities would challenge and<BR>delight such a person? i am new at this. she loves the spongebob show.<BR>I have taken her to several movies but the choices are violence, sex,<BR>sex, violence. she needs interesting things to do. i thought that new<BR>yorker magazine had a special section for children's activities in<BR>nyc. i was wrong. if you can provide any suggestions that don't<BR>include the bronx zoo or the central park zoo i would love to hear.<BR>thanks in advance.<BR>

In Philly: Franklin Institute, Please Touch Museum. New York: NY Aquarium in Coney Island.

also in NYC-- NY Hall of Science (in Queens, but easily accessible by subway and a walk of about 3 blocks)--really huge place with regular and special exhibits and demonstrations., Sony Wonder Technology Lab in midtown--lots of computer/video stations that teach technology using familiar topics. Free, but reservations advised on wekends and holidays

Try taking her to Canal street, the hustle the bustle definitely not boring.<BR><BR>Walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. <BR><BR>Find a playground, the one by The Metropolitan Museum of Art is nice. You might want to visit the museum with the promise of a playground.<BR><BR>Try window shopping, my daughter loves it in the City.<BR><BR>

the Hayden Planetarium in NYC which abuts the Museum of Natural History. Both have been refurbished and are a fun day.<BR><BR>L

In Phila., the Franklin Institute is GREAT and has an IMAX theater too. The Natural Science Museum just recently updated their planetarium.
