8 days Arizona w kids

So we are considering a trip to Grand Canyon, cheapest option seems to be to fly in and out fo Phoenix. How would you put together an itinerary that starts and ends in Phoenix and includes the Grand Canyon, Sedona, possibly Lake Powell? Plus any other things you think would attract curious kids ages 10 & 12? I realize this is kind of vague but there are so many options plus I don’t know whether to put relaxing resort days w pool at the beginning or end of the trip, or whether we should do a day trip from a nice resort to the Canyon or just stay at the Canyon.

Also, nice resorts in Sedona a crazy expensive! Any advice there appreciated as well. Thanks!

What month are you planning to do this trip? And where are you coming from? Can you give us an estimate per night for accommodations?

Traveling in April, Coming from NY; would prefer not to spend more than 300 a night (many Sedona hotels were 600-900 and don’t even look all that nice)

Thanks!!

Spring Break? Nice Resorts? $$$$

Not a big fan of Sedona for kids, other than the Jeep Tour.

To me a better alternative would be fly into Vegas and do a Zion/Bryce/GC loop.

If Sedona is on your must do list then consider a VRBO/condo/Airbnb type place. There are oodles of 2br places available.

Try to stay at least one or 2 nights at the Grand Canyon, at the rim. It will probably be still to cold to relax by the pool in Sedona. Pink Jeep is fun as well as hiking for kids.

We went a couple of April's ago in our 9 year old, flew to Phoenix, drove straight to Sedona then used Flagstaff as a base for the Grand Canyon (we only had 4 nights). Definitely include Sedona - found a great value at Villas of Sedona (villasofsedona.com) and had lots more room that at a hotel. We felt like our day trip to the Grand Canyon was enough - it's quite an impressive site, but after we'd spent a few hours looking at it and hiking a bit, it was nice to escape the crowds and get back to a real city/town.

In Sedona we rented an ATV for a 4-hour self driving tour. Not cheap and not for the faint of heart, but great fun for the kids.

I will add that we wished we had brought bathing suits as it was quite warm in Sedona the mid-April we were there.
