5 Nights on Maui...too long?
We are planning on spending 5 nights on Maui. 2 Nights near Hana or somewhere in the country (more for cost effectiveness than anything else) and 3 nights at a nice resort. My husband seems to think this is too long and we will run out of things to do. Any opinions?
Also, recommendations for nice (but not overly pricey) places to stay on Kaanapali Bay? And what's better Kaanapali area or Wailea?

2 nights near Hana is too much - but 5 nights total is not enough. I think the sights near Hana were nice - however absolutely nothing to do over there. I would go middle of the road and spend at least 8 nights on Maui in an area with more going on. Personally, I enjoyed Wailea more because of the more upscale accomodations - just depends on what you are looking for.

Rachel,
Definitely only spend 1 day/night in the Hana area. Hike the upper trail at the "7 Pools" area - absolutely beautiful.
We stayed in the Kaanapali area and loved it. While we only visited to the Wailea area for a day, we found that Kaanapali had more "going on". We are young (mid twenties) and felt like there was more stuff to do for people our age around Kaanapali/Lahaina.

We spent 5 nights and I could have spent 10 more! In Kanapali we stayed at the Kanapali Beach Hotel. It was nice when we stayed there.
We drove to Hana and I wish we would have spent the night. It was a long ride and the only problem with driving there was we had to drive back again! In one day I thought it was too much for my attention span.
