4 Seasons or Peninsula in LA?!
hello - doing my oodles of research again. 3 women age 40 leaving kids and hubby's behind. looking for lots of R&R such as pool time and in demand movies in the room as well as fun dinners and martini nites. love that peninsula can walk to stuff - 4 seasons does have car to take you within 3 miles. peninsula seems older which i'm not sure we want. anybody stayed at both and know the deal?

I'm a big Four Seasons fan, but the Peninsula in BH and Peninsula in Chicago are two of my favorite hotels in the USA...both better than the FS in BH.
The big pluses at the Pen in BH are location, great bar and restaurant, great service, and I have so enjoyed the villa suites there. They are really worth the upgrade if you can swing it. The private patio/terrace in the better ones is easily 500+ square feet and a really great bonus. (The hotel used to provide a free Audi A8 with suite reservations, too. I think they've switched to Lexus. If you opt for a standard room you'll have to slum it in the hotel's courtesy Rolls Royce).
I don't think I've ever seen a traveler's poll rating the FS higher than the Pen, so I assume many others have the same impressions I do.

We've been to the FS to visit friends but haven't stayed there. If FS were better located I'd have given it a try at some point in the past.
Truth is, you're unlikely to be disappointed either way, of course.

Sorry, guess I didn't finish answering your question. The bar and restaurant at the Pen (the "Living Room" and the Belvedere) are a couple of major celeb hangouts, partly because the hotel provides maximum discretion and clientele respect others' privacy.
I don't get the impression there's an age difference between the P and FS, though I think the P attracts a more diverse crowd (foreigners, dignitaries, etc).
Here are a couple nice mini-reviews:
http://www.coastmagazine.com/travel_...labeverly.html
From 2004 T&L:
Travel + Leisure World's Best Hotels -- U.S./Canada:
Areas ranked: room/facilities, location, service, food/restaurants, business/family
1. The Peninsula, Beverly Hills
2. The Peninsula, Chicago
3. The Greenbrier, West Virginia
The Peninsula, Beverly Hills has the most prestigious location of any hotel in America. It's right in that golden triangle between downtown Beverly Hills, right on Santa Monica Blvd and within walking distance of Rodeo Drive. The hotel ranked right near the top in restaurant (the Belvedere was named the best hotel restaurant in Southern California in Zagat) and service as well.
