4 Nights Romantic Getaway

Hi!

My husband and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this December. He is also turning 50 three days earlier. To celebrate this, we will be taking a trip to Italy in the summer when the weather is warmer and we have more time to get away. However, we still want to celebrate our anniversary when it is here!

We are thinking about taking off on a long weekend, maybe Thursday through Monday morning. We live in Florida, so we might want to plan somewhere within a relatively short flight away so we can maximize our time, but we need ideas! We cruise a lot, and we live in Florida, so we wouldn't mind if it is not a tropical location. Even thinking somewhere with beautiful Christmas decorations could be fun.

We are completely open to any ideas you care to share for a long, romantic weekend away together. Thank you in advance!

If you've never been to NYC to the Christmas Show at Radio City Music Hall, this might be the year. The Rockettes are usually fabulous. There is probably something else on Broadway that would interest you.
The other thought I had for a warmer destination would be New Orleans. Have a great anniversary wherever you go!
Next month DW and I celebrate another anniversary with a trip to the Grand Canyon. Shes never been and it has been more than 45 years since I've been there.

Just looked, you could fly from Orlando to Albuquerque for 250 pp and head up to Santa Fe.

NYC would be great. Or Charleston, or New Orleans -- or fly cross country and do San Francisco or San Diego or Santa Fe.

Two ideas that I had:

1. Fly from Florida to Cancun and drive or take a private transfer to Tulum and stay at one of the nicer beach hotels there like La Zebra, Mezzanine or maybe The Beach (this one is adults only and has a small pool).

2. Closer to home and a total change of pace from #1 would stay at one of the islands off the coast of Georgia or the Carolinas, like Sullivan Island, Jekyll Island, Cumberland, etc. I've only stayed at Hilton Head (which I enjoyed) but another poster, Gretchen I think, is very famliar with the area, judging from her postings).

Asheville, NC and stay at the Grove Park Inn. They really do it up well for the holidays. We do go to St Augustine for the lights at Christmas. We stay at St George's Inn but there are so many nice places there. Amelia Island is very laid back. We like taking the boat cruise by Cumberland island. Congrats!!

The East Coast makes the most sense for your short trip. You don't want to spend the majority of your trip in transit.

New York City sounds fun. My only concern is that hotels are pretty expensive then. Check on booking.com for your dates before you buy flights.

I think there are probably many neat places on the East Coast for a December getaway. (What I learned from the Hallmark channel!) Hopefully someone else from the area will post, but this might get you started....
