The Jane Hotel is at 133 Jane Street. If you still want to use public transportation follow the directions I gave using the A train (Howard Beach station) but get off at 14th St (8th Av) instead .

On 14th St/8th Av, walk south (in the direction opposite of car traffic)for 3 blocks (W13th, Horatio St, Jane St) to Jane Street, make a right and walk about 4 blocks (Hudson St, Greenwich St, Washington St, West St) to the hotel (the hotel is just before West St).

Alternate: Take the AirTrain to the Jamaica station and then take a Manhattan bound E train to 14th St and walk as indicated above. (

It goes without saying, but I will say it anyway--The Tree in Rockerfeller Center and the windows at Macys, Lord and Taylor, and Saks. There is great Christmas Market in Bryant Park with good food options at many booths.
I love NYC and this is my favorite time of year to be there; I even like the crowds.

I'm not sure what your daily food budget is, but some of these suggestions, while good are a bit pricey. I'm not a big fan of Gansevoort Market, but I guess to walk through once is interesting. I would say the same for Chelsea Market. As food halls go, I like Gotham West Market better, but they are all a bit over priced. I agree with benmia the Christmas Market in Bryant park is a not to miss if you are in the city during the winter (October to March). Myers of Keswick - on Hudson Street - has some good breakfast type goodies, such as scones and meat pies for lunch. For coffee, you might want to try Rebel Coffee on 8th Ave or maybe La Bonbonniere across the street if you want breakfast or lunch.

I don't really have a food budget- I'm not a budget traveler when it comes to food, but I try to keep it around $20-30 per meal. But it's sit down restaurants that get me in into trouble- wine+tip really add up. I'm easily swayed by a good dessert or cocktail menu too
