I tried this with Delta and they had to re-book me. The flight out of Charlotte was running 15 min late and they are not allowed to put you on a flight if you will miss your connection. So, they booked me onto a US airways nonstop instead! It left about an hour later and got to LV at about the same time. It worked out okay because all my baggage was carry-on and I had it with me, which is what I'd suggest for you. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS!

You can Google Salt Lake city airport and get a picture of the airport terminals.
Then call Delta and ask them what terminals the Charlotte flight and the LAs Vegas flight go in and out of.
If you arrive and depart out of teh "Delta Commuter" terminal you should be ok like I do and I make it everytime...
If however you arrive at Terminal A & depart out of Terminal D..you would have a very long walk. There are escalators..and electric people carts but it is still very, very long...

Today's DL978 CLT-SLC arrived at C11. Tomorrow's also scheduled to use C11. 978 is the 8am non-stop (only one) which will change its number to 1487 in two days.
Today's DL1105 SLC-LAS at 11am departed from C1. It's also scheduled to use C1 tomorrow, but yesterday it used D4. This 11am flight will change its flight number to 1715 in two days.
C11 is at the end of Concourse C, which is about 230 yards long. Or about 180 yards to C1. It's another 250 yards from Concourse C to D, with moving sidewalks.
Good thing about SLC is that delays are very rare. As long as your flight departs CLT on-time, a 30-minute connection is highly doable.
