3 days in Vegas

I'm heading to Vegas with my husband and another couple in July. They've all been there before, but I'm a Vegas Virgin.

We'll be staying at Paris, and I've gotten us seats at "O." The boys love to gamble and could do that all night - I can too, as long as I'm winning. The girls will probably tire of gambling and will want to venture off on our own. . .any suggestions for evening must see/must do's (since we're only there for a few days, I'm looking for THE thing not to be missed).

I realize in July it will be quite hot, so we will probably spend the days by the pool or in the spa - any suggestions there?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I am absolutely green with envy Sarah. haha Although, I will be in Jamaica in July. Yes, the girls should get away and leave the guys to their own devices. I don't know about THE thing not to be missed, since there are so many wonderful things to do. I can tell you this, don't waste your money on The Thunder from Down Under. I think you may like LaCage at the Riviera hotel. It was rather funny, but celebrity impersonation is always funny to me. Or just go downtown to Freemont street, browse, look around, see the light show, have 99 cent margaritas, and people watch. I always suggest gambling downtown, better odds and pay out in the smaller casinos like Binions or the Horseshoe. May I also suggest Rum Jungle in Mandalay Bay I think it was. Wonderful deserts and dancing there.
Have fun!

Well, we are travelling to Vegas in September, and I don't gamble.. but I only stay at hotels with nice spas!!! Let the boys go off, (as my husband does) and hit a spa.. treat yourself to facial, massage, pedicure.. maybe work out at the gym.. have your hair styled and shop, thats what I always do and it makes for a wonderful weekend. I think Paris has a nice spa as well, generally spa info and such is available on any hotel/casino web site.. as well as different shops that are in each casino.

Sarah-- Sounds like a repeat of what we did last summer... same hotel, same time, same age.

The pool at Paris is somewhat small and low-key compared to others we saw. But that kind of keeps the kids away, so it's not such a bad thing.

As for the suggestion on the Bellagio fountain show, we also stayed at Paris for 3 days and the fountain show was no big deal after a few looks. You'll see it frequently, being right across the street.

Can't help you on the spa, but the architecture inside Paris is remarkably like the real city. Felt like we were back there, minus the casino. You can even sit at a streetside cafe and people watch - they had a mime playing tricks on people... pretty entertaining. Breakfast at the bakery was excellent... brunch at the buffet was excellent, especially if you like crepes... dinner at the Eiffel Tower was very pricey, but very good..... and even a quick lunch at the streetside Italian place by the slots was good, although the food wasn't made to order.

As for things to do away from the hotel, we really thought the rollercoaster at NYNY was pretty darn good for a hotel ride. But we're not the amusement park types. Just wanted a quick thrill.

The beauty of staying at Paris is the location. If you're a LV virgin, as we were last year, you'll want to see the other hotels because each is unique and amazing. So we walked one way down the strip one day, and went the other way on Day 2.

Probably our favorite hotels to see (if you don't have much time) were Bellagio, Caesars, MGM & Venetian. But we really liked something at each one.

Our most disappointing things were the pirate show at Treasure Island (because we waited so long and it was very crowded and hot), and the volcano eruption at The Mirage (same reasons).

Lastly, O is fabulous. You'll love it. Enjoy!

In addition to Rum Jungle, I'd recommend a martini at Red Square (also in Mandalay Bay.) They have every kind of vodka, the bartenders are great and they make terrific drinks. Shopping-wise, I always head to the Sephora cosmetics store in the Aladdin (it's better than the one in the Venetian.) There's also a Steve Madden store there if you like their shoes. Spa-wise, the Four Seasons is terrific, but it's definitely high-end and pricey. As a previous poster wrote, the NY NY roller coaster is fun and if you like rides, definitely do the Big Shot at the Stratosphere. If you guys stay up late (which I hope you will considering you're in Vegas!), head over to the Pepper Mill and kick back at the fireside lounge. It's kinda cheesy, yet still really cozy, relaxing and romantic!

Again, thanks for the tips - they will all come in handy. I'm really curious to see the Paris hotel since I lived in Paris for a bit. ..

Also, I welcome the evening club/bar suggestions. My husband went to Vegas last year for his bachelor party, but I doubt we'll be frequenting the same clubs he visited on his guys only weekend!!!

For nightlife, I highly suggest Ghost Bar at Palms. There is also a club called Rain there. Ghostbar is more mellow/loungey. Voodoo is Fun also. Light at the Bellagio was also a great time.
