3 Days after Rose Bowl (Jan 2 - 4) & Flying out of LAX 1/5
Hi All:
Our family of 4 (2 teenage boys) will be finishing up a 2-week trip to Truckee and then Pasadena for the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl. After that, we have Jan 1 or 2 - 4th to stay someplace else for a couple of days. We love great food, hiking, beach ... I was wondering what other locations would be convenient and not killer traffic to get back to the airport.
Completely open for ideas and suggestions. San Diego probably not a good choice but have looked briefly at San Clem.
Thanks

Santa Barbara? You can get there on an Amtrak Surfliner train without a rental car. There is a connector bus that can get you back to LAX without a rental car from either the Santa Barbara airport (Goleta) or from downtown.

Not related to your question but viewing the floats up close either before or after is a lot of fun!

You can't go in the water anyway in January, so not sure what the beach thing is about. I guess you can just like looking at it. Manhattan Beach isn't a bad idea, or Redondo Beach or even Huntington Beach for that matter.

I like Jamie's ideas on where to stay, Santa Monica and Manhattan Beach. If those don't work out out, also consider Marina del Rey or Culver City near LAX.
You could choose to stay an additional night in Pasadena if there was something nearby you wanted to do. For example, Pasadena isn't that far from Burbank if you wanted to go to Universal Studios for the day. Fun for two teenage boys.
You might also consider visiting a California Mission. A frequent Poster here, Maitaitom, has a great guide.

Manhattan Beach for great walks along the strand ,great dining options, and you can head just south to Ranchos Palos Verdes for your hikes. Grab a room if by chance they still have one available for you (and they offer complimentary bikeS) Www.theseaviewinn.com.
