24 hours in Honolulu
First time to Oahu, but we only have 24 hours (afternoon to afternoon). Staying in Waikiki; will not have a car. Suggestions on how best to spend our time? Note – we’re spending a week on Kauai prior to arrival.

Make advance reservations to go on a tour of either Iolani Palace or Shangri La on the first afternoon. Go straight from the airport. They should store your bags while you do this if you ask nicely. Get up early the next morning and take a bus tour to the Arizona Memorial. Poke around Waikiki in-between.

Check out Duke's at Outrigger Waikiki Beach Hotel. Great place for a late afternoon cocktail and live music. Barefoot Beach Cafe by Queen's Beach is a nice short walk from Waikiki through Kapiolani Park.
Grab a cappuccino at the Honolulu Coffee Company next to Moana Surfrider, chill out and enjoy it at by the big banyan tree at the hotel in one of their comfortable chairs.

What kinds of things are you interested in? What day of the week will you be there?
Do you want to do outdoor/nature kinds of things? Or maybe something historic or cultural or artistic?
Hike DiamondHead? Go to Bishop Museum or the Iolani Palace or ShangriLa estate?
Hang out on Waikiki Beach and the parks at either end? Go to the Zoo?

We arrive on a Monday around noon, and leave Tuesday around 3:00.
We like all kinds of activity and inactivity...art, history, mild adventure, shopping (local crafts, food, etc), relaxing on a beach or by a pool, etc.
With only two half days, I’d like to see a “must-see” or two. From what I’ve read, climbing Diamondhead would take too long, and Shanghai La isn’t open on our days.
I’m thinking we can do a self-tour of Iolani Palace on Monday afternoon, the Arizona Tuesday morning, and just hang out in Waikiki the rest of the time?
