24 hours in Boston - Where to eat?

We have a quick stopover in Boston and I haven't been in many years. Wondering what the top 5 places to eat would be for non traditional trendy spots. 1 Dinner, 1 Lunch, 1 Breakfast. We are staying near Copley Place.

Depends on what type of food you like...can help you out more if there are certain cuisines you prefer.

If you are into spanish food for dinner I'd recommend Barcelona Wine Bar and Beehive does good breakfast.

I eat mostly fish (the non shelled variety) from any cuisine...
I do love farm to table! The more veggies the better.

Not a big fan of Chinese or traditional steak/seafood spots....

I suggest Flour for breakfast, although I have no idea if it's "trendy"--I'd guess it is. It's not exactly "nontraditional", as bakeries are not a new concept, but there it is.

Not sure if trendy, but certainly cool - have a drink at Liberty Hotel bar. It is a hotel converted from one of the oldest jails in the country and still retains many of the features of catwalk, cell bars, prison yard. We have also eaten at Scampo, one of the restaurants there, and had a great meal.

Near Mass General Hospital/North End.

If you want a reasonably priced breakfast, Thorntons ( http://www.thorntonsboston.com/ ); a splurge in a beautiful setting, Fairmont Copley ( http://www.fairmont.com/copley-plaza.../hotelhistory/ )

I had a lovely late lunch in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

Not in Copley but great Dinners:

Salvadore’s: http://www.salvatoresrestaurants.com/ (reservations or sit at bar)

Viale: http://vialecambridge.com/

Reservations a must. Dinner at bar at Salvadore's OK

For breakfast... If nice out, you could try Mike and Patty's. Call ahead or be prepared to wait. You will likely have to eat it on the curb.

For dinners... Bear in mind that Boston doesn't do trendy very well. With your Farm to Table request though, I'd lean toward Puritan and Company (in Cambridge) or Asta if you wanted something more modern.

The new restaurant Select Oyster Bar has received excellent reviews. It's in Back Bay on Gloucester Street. Despite its name, it does offer non-shellfish options on the menu. http://www.selectboston.com

As a former waitress and barmaid during the college years, I take Select Oysters policy of an auto tip of %20 offensive. Really, who wants to be the jerk to call in management to take it off your bill?

Doesn't bother me. It's what I leave anyway. And the tip is usually added in many restaurants to larger parties. They make it clear that it is their policy and if customers rebel, they'll have to rethink it. There are 100s of other restaurants to patronize.

Went to Scampo last night in the Liberty Hotel.
It was wonderful. I had the sea bass, hubby had the duck. Both great. My friend had the beef carpaccio, she said it was the best she had ever had. We really enjoyed the vibe at the hotel as well. Cool place.

For lunch we went to b and g oyster. My friends pick. They really enjoyed the lobster rolls. I had a decent salad. My husband ordered the fried fish which can with a big slab of bacon, which he does not eat ever. No description of this addition on the menu, waitress was apologetic, manager didn't seem to care.

Still undecided on breakfast this morning.....

So glad you enjoyed dinner at Liberty Hotel. Our evening there was also memorable - but since we do not frequent higher end restaurants in Boston, was a bit hesitant to recommend it since my comparison pool is limited. But can't beat the atmosphere for coolness. Safe travels.

Hit the Paramount in Beacon Hill for breakfast. Everyone around recommended it. We enjoyed our Vermont Gost Cheese omlettes with asparagus.....

So glad to hear the report back. We adore the Liberty and Scampo, and have actually had staycations there. And breakfast at the Paramount is a well oiled machine. Curious what Barbara Lynch is charging for market price lobster rolls these days at BG

For lunch on Newbury Street if it's a warm day
the streetis full of boutiques and side walk cafes.
I like La Voile, a transplant from Cannes. Both lunch and dinner would be fine.
Legal Seafood because the fish is ALWAYS super fresh.
Liberty is a good choice for their restaurants.
I even go there with my dog for their yappy hour.
