2 weeks on 1 island, or 1 week each on 2 islands?
Ok, I posed a question the other day about where we should go in Hawaii this summer. It will be our 4th trip there, and I will hopefully be pregnant. We are going in August, and have been to all four of the major islands at least once. (Maui, Oahu, BI all twice and Kauai once.) People gave great suggestions and iamq thought maybe we should try 1 island for the 2 whole weeks, and I'm now thinking of this.
What do you all usually do in Hawaii? Do you split your stay, or stay put on 1 island? We are coming from Boston, so it's a long flight. And we really want to relax and enjoy this trip this time because we are hoping it's our last alone couple trip! Thanks for anything you can add to this "debate"

I have been a hopper in the past (LOL Pila!). But "flopping" seems more appealing these days to me. And also based on your comments about wanting to relax and enjoy your last vacation alone, I'd vote for flopping. And you could alway stay in two different locations on the same island, if you wanted variety.

We have done both. If you want a relaxing vacation, rent a condo and stay 2 weeks. I wouldn't want 2 weeks in a hotel though.
About 15 years ago we spent 2 weeks in a condo on Kauai. I got bored by the end. I know, I know, but I was younger and more restless then. I could probably do it now, although we don't.
We spend about 5 days on 1 Island now then spend another 10 days or so on another island.
either way,
enjoy!

I agree with iamq, be a flooper. I know he is and flops on my favorite beach and tries to flop on my favorite beach chair.
We have been spending three weeks on Kauai, travelling from Pennsylvania each of the last 12 years.
Totally relaxing and more than enough to do.

I'm a hopper, but I gotta agree with Auntie Maria--the whole baby thing kind of throws a different groove into this vacation dilemma!
I once spent an entire 2 week vacation in one place (2 years ago this month!) and I couldn't believe I wasn't doing my normal aggressive itinerary. But when I look back on it now, I can honestly say that I really got to know the place, and had a nice, unrushed time.

How aboout spending one week in Wailea, and one week in Kaanapali or Napili? Or one week in Waikiki, and one week at Turtle Bay Resort. One week in Poipu, then one week at The Princeville? That way you get 2 different areas on one island, without extra flights, and its so much easier to throw everything into a rental car then to pack twice.
My family and I usually do this on our 8 day vacations, we recently did the Westin on Kaanapali, then the Grand Wailea, and a couple years ago we did Hapuna Prince on BI, then the Hilton Waikaloa for the kids. We really love doing that. And if you are pregnant (good luck!), it would be much less tiring.
Either way you do it, it sounds great.
