1st time going Vegas
Please advise- Me and Hubby are going to Las Vegas for the 1st time Oct. 17th-21st for our 5 yr Anniversary. I'm wondering will it be BIG crowds there at that time. We are going Sunday-Wednesday??? Also how does Vegas compare to Disney World??? We are not big gamblers, but enjoy sightseeing and amusement rides?? We hear positive things and some negative things about Vegas..
Please advise
Thanks!!

You cannot compare Las Vegas to Disney World. If an amusement park is what you want, then go to Disneyworld. Las Vegas is a unique experience unlike any other place in the world.
There will be plenty of folks in Las Vegas but it will not be too crowded Sun-Wed unless there are a lot of conventions going on. I believe that period will actually be pretty busy this year.
You do not have to be gamblers to enjoy Las Vegas. There is much to do and see. Most of the negative things about Las Vegas come from people that have never been there.
I suggest that you visit some of the many Las Vegas web sites. They will have tons of information about what is happening. One of my favorites is "Las Vegas On Line" at:
www.lvol.com

Jan, I just returned from LasVagas and I
had a great time. My best friend is a real fan of Disneyland and she choose my hotel. It was the Mirage. It is great! Enjoy the spa, See Seifgried and Roy, Mystere, and The Follies Bergere. The roller coaster at New York New York is fun to watch. The top of the Stratosphere is a great place to take in the city.

Jan,
The crowds should not be a problem with you going the beginning of the week. Also comparing Disney to Vegas is like comparing apples to oranges, sorry for the cliche. If your into rides try the coaster at Ny-Ny. The best ride by far in Vegas is the Big Shot atop the Stratosphere. Instead of dropping you down from a height it shoots you straight in the air. I've tried it and it is outstanding. For sight-seeing in vegas try the Forum Shops at Casesars, the volcano=Mirage, water fountains=Bellagio, pirate battle=TI, and the dolphin habitat at the Mirage. Also if you have a car try Hoover Dam.

Definitely ride the Big Shot - you will feel like an astronaut. Also, the Star Trek ride at the Las Vegas Hilton is a lot of fun. Get out of the city for a day or so too. Many of the best sites are out there; go to the Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon (this one is less than an hour away and has an easy loop to drive), the Valley of Fire.

I want to second the suggestion to rent a car and visit Red Rock Canyon. The ride seemed like less than an hour to us - at any rate, it's not far.
The scenery is beautiful; be sure to bring a camera. We are two pretty non-athletic types, and still enjoyed the non-challenging hikes we took.
Basically, you follow the loop route in your car and can choose various spots to get out and hike or explore the terrain.
Enjoy!
