My husband and I want to take a special trip to celebrate our 10-yr. anniversary, without the kids. We're estimating a week, preferably in the U.S., and we'll be leaving from Tampa. We want it to be romantic and relaxing, but nothing to do with beaches. Any ideas?

There is a lot to do in San Diego, without going to the beach. It may be a bit far though? There is the zoo, wild animal park, seaworld, balboa park - which is lovely and has about 15 museums to visit, shopping in La Jolla, Seaport village, Carlsbad outlet stores, Old Town, an hour drive is Mission San Juan Capistrano.

--New York City-- uber-romantic, if you do it right
--New England-- Maine in particular is amazing, as is Vermont
--Mountains-- Sierras, Colorado, etc.
--The Pacific Northwest (Portland, Seattle, maybe Victoria and Vancouver?)

Sedona & surrounding area. Definitely not near a beach.

What time of year would be a big deciding factor. However, Tahoe is beautiful, fun, & romantic all rolled into one.

One not mentioned, New Orleans. You can make of it what you like, or Charlston. Also Arizona would be great. Sedona.

Sedona in May can be gorgeous.
Very romantic if you can stay at one of the better lodgings.
Tie it in with a trip to Phoenix/Scottsdale or Las Vegas or southern Utah's national parks.
Stunning scenery. Very relaxed. Very uniquely American...nowhere else in the world has scenery like that.

I third Sedona - and I would recommend the Enchantment Resort. We spent part of our honeymoon there - and it was wonderful. Sedona has a beauty that I have not seen anywhere else. Also, there are alot of places you could get to from there for quick day trips.

Was in Scottsdale in early May and it was all ready getting too hot outside for sightseeing in and around town. Went to the Botantical Gardens and people were having to sit down from the heat. Sedona was nice though.

I'd go to the Pacific Northwest and see Seattle, the San Juan Islands and Vancouver.

IF you want to live it up and get more for your money then go to Canada.

San Francisco area. Go to Napa Valley (Yountsville or Helena) for 2-3 nights and 4-5 nights in San Francisco. Plenty to see and do and romantic

Another vote for the Calif. wine country. But after reading some Oregon wine country threads...hmmm?
We did our 10th anniv trip to Kauai but have been going to Napa/Sonoma for our anniv. for the past few years since it's close and our anniv. is usually over T'giving weekend.

What about San Antonio and the surrounding Hill Country?

Oregon Wine Country is not in the same league as what California has to offer. Either go for Napa/Sonoma or Santa Barbara/Paso Robles is also great.
