Magpies: I might suggest you start a new thread w/ a title that more clearly explains what you are now looking for.
As it is, without a state tag and a very general title, most won't have any idea you are looking for hotels in specific places. The only real input you are getting is from a few folks who opened your original post . .
Just sayin' you might get better response . . .

Not far from Fort Lauderdale is St. Augustine - America's oldest city. It is off the radar for most international visitors. St. Augustine is loaded with history, interesting architecture, art galleries, good & reasonably priced restaurants and shopping (2 outlet malls). The historic district is very walkable. Here are a few links:

As an added bonus, Nights of Lights will be in full swing that time of year. http://www.floridashistoriccoast.com/nights/

St Augustine is 315 miles from Fort Lauderdale. If you are arriving the night before your cruise you are not going to have a lot of time the day OF the cruise except to get yourself breakfast and then over to Port Everglades to board.

Thanks OrlandoVic,
I will check out all of your web sites and suggestions. We have not been to St Augustine before so it is definitely a possibility.
Janisj, I will take your advice and be more specific with hotel search.
I am a teacher and at the moment am busy writing school reports so will do that in the very near future.
Thanks again everyone
Donna
