Ideas for a Christmas Trip

My husband and I are are couple in our early 30's and we are looking to go away for Christmas - just the two of us. We are interested in culture, museums, nature, and would like a church to attend midnight mass if possible on Christmas Eve. We could do "the beach thing" or visit a major city - we really don't know what to do. We went to Chicago this autumn and we live in Raleigh currently. We had considered going to Europe but it's probably out of our price range so we may just stay stateside. We are looking for a trip for about 5 - 8 days or so around Christmas time. Do you have any recommendations as to where to go for Christmas? We would like to avoid Zika areas at all costs. We were thinking about New York City. Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences during Christmas week? Thanks ahead of time!

Williamsburg, VA and Charleston, SC are both beautiful then, with gorgeous decorations, music and food.

Who does Christmas spirit better than New York? New York is one of the best choices.

Yes, but NYC is bloody expensive at Christmas time, and since the Budget Travel tag was selected, that would not be my advice. I like the idea of Charleston, SC. Williamsburg is pretty poky IMO, and once you get past the Xmas decorations in Colonial Williamsburg, pretty meh at the holidays. I am not aware of anything specifically Christmas-y there, but New Orleans is always wonderful. Key West would be unique.

Why not Quebec City? Charming with European flair without the long flights, and plenty of character.

Oh, and Montreal, too, would be a great choice.
