What to do and where to go!
My boyfriend and I are planning a trip away between October and mid-January for 13-14 weeks.
The rough plan at the moment is;
Sri Lanka (ten days),
Asia (4 weeks) (Philippines, Indonesia, Borneo)
New Zealand (3 weeks),
Maybe one of the Pacific islands (1 week) (thinking the Cook islands, Western Samoa, French Polynesia or Hawaii as I have spent a lot of time in Fiji in Tonga),
Central America (4 weeks) to visit Belize, Honduras (Utila) and Costa Rica.
We would love to fit in a week in the Maldives before Sri Lanka but think it will rack up the price. We would also really like to go to Baja California when we go to Central America but are not sure if this would be feasible.
We love being outdoors, and enjoy trekking, nature and seeing new things. I am a marine biologist so I would love to get some more diving in and my boyfriend wants to learn.
Does anyone have any advice on 4 weeks in Asia travelling to those countries, and whether it is easy to try and get to the southern tip of Baja California and then to get down to the rest of central America? Anyone travelled this route before?
We know we will be on the move a lot, but we want to try and fit in as much as we possibly can in the small time frame that we have!!

Nik, welcome to Fodors. You have posted in the "Travel tips and Trip Ideas" forum, which makes sense as you are looking for trip ideas. However, this forum sees little traffic, is not visited by many people.
You will get more ideas and replies if you post in the South America and Asia forums, also in the Australia and the Pacific forums for NZ and islands ideas.
Sounds like a fun trip.

If you fly from Hawaii to LA or San Diego, you might then find the easiest and cheapest way to get to Baja is to book a package holiday.
When a destination is a highly popular tourist destination, it is next to impossible for someone to do it themselves for less money. So I would suggest you look at package prices and then (since you would be returning to the departure point in the package price) an ongoing flight from LA or SD to Central America.
Coming from the Pacific to N. America and then over to Central America, the detour down to Baja is really not a big deal I would say.
Checking for a price for the first two weeks in December using Expedia, I see a price as low as $762 per person for hotel and air return.
