DragonflyDebi, that is awful. I can't imagine how bad that was for you. I'm down to a 21 inch rollaboard, but I've been checking that so I could take a small rolling backpack as my carry-on. I have a big camera and would never check that, and after a couple of times of delayed luggage I always take one change of clothes along. Add to that the travel docs, iPad, any medications, and I can't squeeze it all into the 21 inch rollaboard. So, I wish I could do carry-on only but I'm still working on that. I can do it for domestic flights but not for Europe for 8 days. Yet!

So sorry to hear that DragonflyDebi. On the return trip my carryon is *always* a shopping bag with anything I have purchased on the trip. I do check my suitcase because I don't care if they lose my dirty clothes on the way home.

Wow, I'm impressed with all your ideas and plans, whether it's a "resolution" or not.

Keep traveling!

I also consider myself an excellent planner and traveler. However, there is always room for improvement and I hope to actually write some trip reviews on return this time. So, you could call that a resolution related to travel, I suppose.

More than anything for this year, I've always looked forward to the summer when our kids are 13, 15 and 17. It just seemed that would be a great time for us, and perhaps one of the last summers for a family trip before someone has to work, someone is away at school, etc. So, I'm planning what could possibly be our last trip with all five of us going. That's already being derailed a bit, since the inlaws are considering coming with us, but we look at it as an expansion of the plan.

We do travel VERY light, even to the point of purchasing at our destination.

I do resolve to stop fretting about the one ticket we'll have to buy, as we only have enough miles for four of the five, and just do it!

Update on my resolution - plans are set for the out of my comfort zone trip: We will start off in Copenhagen, then head to Gothenburg Sweden where we will pick up the new car. From there we will drive over to Norway, spending a few days in Oslo and Bergen before driving back to Gothenburg. We'll put the car on the ship [well, some burly longshoreman, not us] and then we will head to Stockholm. From Stockholm, it's off to Paris for 8 days and then were home.

Now, that is out of my comfort zone, for sure!

I resolve to at least look into a netbook for traveling and try to figure out, objectively, if it would offer enough benefits to outweigh the extra space/weight/cost of one. Right now we each have a blackberry to stay in touch with work and we back our photos up to the iPod and edit them when we get home.

Oh, and to replace my black travel coat. I've taken it on almost every trip for at least 15 years. On our last trip I told my husband to make me throw it away when we got home or I'd still be wearing it 10 years from now. Funny thing is, I'm going to look for one that's very similar! Lightweight, rainproof, with snap-on hood, and a button in fleece liner for cold days/climates.

I resolve to travel more again this year. I have spent the last three and a half years doing a lot of sailing. I have not flown anywhere since 2007 (lots of ferry trips though)! That is resolved on Saturday when I fly to Portugal for a 6 day road trip. I am also doing a lot of closer to home stuff, though I am tempted to start working toward my private pilot licence so I can get further afield for long weekends!

I will complete a trip in each of my favorite transportation categories: Planes, Trains and Automobiles! In the form of an international trip to Europe, a fun weekend trip by train, and a Road Trip to a national park! If I can swing it, I'll add Boats! I could use a cruise.

Oh and I will master the carry-on-only-with-CONFIDENCE packing list...
