Luxury African Safari, followed by a few days shopping in Capetown.

I've had a wonderful time going solo in Ireland - every pub is full of potential friends, ready to include you in conversation and toast to your health and beauty

i would definately treat myself to a safari in south africa!
nice lodge or camp in the kruger vicinity (sabi sands). may is reasonable moneywise but cold/cool evenings and warm days.
you don't need to appear like coming straight from the move "oput of africa". walking boots, jeans/cargos, sweathshirts, t-shirts will do fine - not to forget gloves, hat, windbreaker etc.

think that through! for such a milestone like turning 40 - it's my super douper idea!

but i have to admitt i am a bit bias ;-)

enjoy further planning - and stop panicing! you won't believe right now but the world won't stop turning after you has slipped smoothly into your 40ies.
having that adventure survived a couplecouple of years ago - believe me: the best time is just waiting for you!

happy birthday and happy landings!

Magellan--you are not crazy---all of the solo travel posts are in here. When solo travel is selected, your post will appear.

There are so many great ideas on here. What about Turkey...

Thanks, Katie - I decided on Buenos Aires for my 40th birthday trip (I leave in 12 days - woooo hoooooo!!!!!!), but I'm defintely considering Greece, Cyprus, or Turkey for a trip this fall. I've heard wonderful things about Turkey.

Cheers - M

Thanks everyone for all the great tips. Here's the link to my trip report - I just got back from 10 days in Buenos Aires for my 40th birthday. I really appreciate all the help everyone gave in suggesting different places to go.

Cheers! Magellan
