Sure, no one 'needs' perfume ever really -- but I like to use it just like at home. Perfume is part of my normal daily routine. Using scent doesn't make one 'high maintenance' and not using it doesn't make one superior. And why not use foundation if one normally does at home? Heck, I even take nail enamel and remover pads. None of those things preclude using carry on only.

I travel a lot. And use only carryon. Twice in 30+ years for circumstances beyond my control I had to check my bag. Both times lost. For a few days.

But I did learn a new trick recently. In that 311 bag put your bottles horizontally not vertically. You can fit more. Don't know how but IMHO it is true.

One of my pals likes to use contact cases to put a little dab of this or that potion if in a gel form.
I ike the 30 ml plastic squirt bottles that come with my eyeglass refills.

You can also buy all sort of empty mini spray bottles on ebay.

This is my favorite store for really nice travel stuff including many small containers, some glass, some plastic. I first discovered them in London but here's their website for online shopping.

I bought mini refillable perfume spray containers years ago as stocking stuffers for the travelers in my family. They love them because they can fill them with their favorite perfume and pop it in their purse.

I saw some on Amazon called “Mini Refillable Perfume Atomizer”. It’s about the size of a tube of lipstick. You insert the nozzle of the perfume bottle into a valve on the spray container and pump up and down until it’s full.

Also, my family travelers like the shampoo bars so they don’t have to fill up the 3-1-1 bag with liquid.

I haven't used concealer since I was a teen and completely forgot that it existed. I don't put foundation all over my face, just use it on a few areas so this is a fabulous option for me. Will have to check out Bare Minerals. Thanks so much.

.
Your luggage was not lost if you got it back a few days later. It was delayed. Not loaded onto your flight for whatever reason. Lost luggage means it was lost never to be found again, which is quite rare.

One day, two days, a 'few days' . . . in any case a huge inconvenience.

Just spent a week in London -- some quite dressy some casual. Everything from garden show to theatre to Tiffany exhibition - didn't wear the same outfit twice and the only 'laundry' needed was washing out undies and drying them on the towel rail. Probably spent less than 5 minutes doing laundry the entire week. My roll aboard weighs about 20 lbs totally packed and is easy to lift into the overhead (and I'm petite so the overheads are literally way 'over head'). Was through fast track immigration and customs and on the tube into London long before any luggage from the flight hit the carousel. I'd rather waste 5 mins doing a bit of hand washing to avoid waiting . . . and waiting . . . for checked luggage . . . and sometimes not getting it for 2 or 3 days.

Never did any any 'pushing or shoving' that I recall.
Nobody said it was superior to check in luggage. There is more than one way to answer the OPs question, it is not a one size fits all answer. You prefer carry-on, I do not, unless it is an overnight or 2/3 day trip. You won't get pushing and shoving in first or business class transatlantic but you will get that on European flights which I mostly take, BA and KL are my most frequent airlines. And by frequent I mean I travel every month, at least. The chaos has been limited to a short time, it has not been continuous mayhem at LHR for example. There have been pockets of issues with luggage. At CPH recently, the bags they give out for liquids is smaller than those given out at LHR & you can get far less in them. Several people had to throw out stuff as it did not fit into that very small plastic bag. My last couple of flights which were over this past weekend, people were asked to gate check their carry-ons as there wasn't enough room for it all. Both flights. And thats not exactly unusual. KLM often send out text messages asking to check in hand luggage for the same reason. Carry on was only ever intended for fragile/emergency/essential items onboard that could not be checked in, not for a persons entire 2 weeks vacation supplies. Be happy not everyone wants to do the same thing. There isn't room for it all onboard. Some of those KLM Cityhopper fllights that I take are on Embraer aircraft which have very small overhead lockers. When I travel to the US, it is always on VS Upper Class (although I want to try the suites in JetBlue's Mint class next trip) , I can take much more as hand luggage than on a European flight, they turn a blind eye (to some extent) to quantities, weight etc and the US is well known for baggage issues. European airlines have stricter rules and security checks for unaccompanied luggage, the US does not. You can check that with your Flyertalk friends.

And nobody said it was 'superior' to do carry on only. If you notice I clearly said "There is nothing superior about traveling checked or carry on."

Yes, there is more than one way to answer the OP's question - but the actual question was 'How do women manage the 100 ml limits'. Which most of us have tried to answer.

Why the flyertalk dig?? Mentioning FT once in a while seems to really get under your skin. (Several long time Fodorites are members there too BTW).

Great tip.

I was surprised on a trip to France to find sunscreen not sold in supermarkets. Just pharmacies.

Sephora is selling about 30 different big-name perfume brands in roller ball sticks, narrow as a lipstick but longer, in the range of $30. If one is not near you, their website is. Ulta does also.

Contact cases do it for me for smear of this and that. Every large drugstore chain has good part of an aisle devoted to travel-sized toiletries. Harmon a spinoff of Bed, Bath, Beyond has zillions of travel sized products, as do large grocery stores. I have mini tubes of sunscreen from my dermotologist's office which we bring. Supergoop comes in tiny sizes, as well as a sampler of about 4 in handy case, pricey but great.

Lots of foundations are also SPF 30, so there you go! And yes, my skin (very old) needs foundation, but I bring a stick instead of liquid. Again many major brands (Hourglass, Tarte are two) have foundation sticks.

We travel alot and always keep up my supplies of travel-sized everything, but can fit all I want in a lightweight LeSportsac cosmetic bag, yeah, it's packed and about 6x8" but always check 24" bag for overseas direct flights.

I've found that in a few places, there are a lot of sunscreens that come in 3oz tubes and always bring at least one of those. Banana Boat 1 ounce tubes are handy for keeping in your bag. They are easy to find in most retailers. Only issue is that sometimes the tubes leak.

Target brand Up &Up Sport Sunscreen lip balm comes in SPF 50. Most lippies are not that high SPF.
The Target Up & Up sunscreen is also very effective if you are into decanting. It is a generic version of the Banana Boat I think.

No way would I go without foundation! During the pandemic, while working from home, I did change from a rather pricey Lancme foundation to a way cheaper LOreal version. While both 1 oz, the LOreal comes in flat plastic squeeze packaging that will be easier for travel than the traditional glass Lancme bottles.
