Idaho or Nova Scotia? Help planning active 65th birthday trip

Considering either Coeur d'Alenes, Idaho or Nova Scotia for a family trip in July. Kids are mid-20s, we're all good travelers and want to go someplace we've not been! Looking for 2 to 3 days of golf plus several days hiking, cycling, walking, flat water kayaking, swimming, exploring. OK moving from place to place after a few nights, but not keen to move every day. Pros and cons of both destinations? (We know travel to Halifax will be more cumbersome - coming from midwest and west coast).

Both are great but honestly the two could not be more different. Sort of like "Should we go to New Zealand or Peru?"

You might want to post on the United States and Canada forums so experts on each place will see your questions.

Never been to Idaho, but Nova Scotia has everything you are looking for. Amazing hiking, heart stopping views, lighthouses, cozy fishing villages, great music in the pubs and restaurants, vineries, gorgeous drives (think Cabot Trail), mountains, lakes and open ocean - what could be better? Halifax is so beautiful and vibrant - one of my favorite cities in Canada. We have been to Nova Scotia twice (two weeks each trip) and are definitely coming back.

I haven't been to Nova Scotia. If you're looking at Couer d'Alene, maybe consider Sandpoint, too. You'd be close to hiking, on a lake, could explore Schweitzer.

I've been to both and would choose Nova Scotia in a heartbeat. As vino mentioned, There is much more to do and see, food is awesome. Lots of hiking and golf and if budget is part of your thinking your dollar will go 30% further in Nova Scotia.
