Copper Canyon

Posting here as I've had no replies on the Mexico site.

Has anyone been here within the last few years?
Would love find a tour group.
Any recommendations?
Many thanks!

You are MUCH more likely to get useful responses on the Mexico forum than here on the generic 'Travel Tips' board.

You can try topping your other thread . . .

There are certainly Fodorites who have been to Mexico in the last few years, but I doubt any of them went with a tour group. What kind of tour did you want?

We went in a Road Scholar trip to the Copper Canyon.
There were 3 guides for about 20 people, so we could divide up into smaller groups based on activity level.
In some places, a local guide was added.
It would have been very difficult to put together many of the experiences on our own.

abram-
The RS trip is exactly what we would like, but they haven't been doing it for several years. I'm hoping they bring it back.
How long ago was your trip?
Gate 1 has an itinerary which we liked. Our friend went and enjoyed it, but there were 40(!) in the group. Don't think I could stand that.

thursdaysd-
What abram said.

Don't recall the dates of our trip.
I don't know if they go to Copper Canyon, but friends love OAT for their small groups.

We love OAT also, but they don't do Copper Canyon.

I think you should really try to post it in Mexico forum cause most likely they will have more information and follow ups with your trip. In terms of a tour group, you must be updated with the date of the trip and must also look for a number of people to complete the tour group. Since you want to have a Mexican trip then try posting it there in order for you also to better let them know your itinerary plans and suggested date. Good luck.

Thanks, abram-
Finally did get some replies in the Mexican forum - tho the RS trip you described is the one I'd most want.

BTW - I think the trouble with posting on a destination forum is that folks most often go there to get information, not to give it - unless one is a very frequent visitor to the region.

I think what Fodors needs is a way of listing all new posts in one location. Those interested in replying to one could then hit on it and get linked over to the right forum.

I went 10 years ago with Caravan Tours - even then we had an armed guard with us on the train.

It was beautiful, and we stayed in Barrancas (?) hotel where all rooms have the canyon view, and they whole tour was wonderful.

As I remember, it was a relaxed, slow-pace tour. Now, I see that the itinerary has changed.

Never mind, I opened their main website, and this tour is not listed. May be too dangerous?

I live in So AZ, not too far from CC, and used to hear about Copper Canyon tours frequently. I had looked into going. After the tourists on the train were killed in 1998,I I stopped hearing about it. I hope there will be more tours offered again. The violence in Mexico seems to have quieted down some.
