I have never been much for art museums. So thankfully I am spared this aggravation!

I can manage an art museum for an hour or 90 minutes and then I'm about ready to wrap it up. I think I'd much prefer to pick out two or three galleries that sound most promising and take my time rather than to dash around to a list of "must sees".

I'm kind of the same with travel. Usually prefer the place take me where it will than to work completely off plans and impressions I made before I even know something about the place. I always end up finding some art piece (or thing to do) that I like much more than the thing I am supposed to go see.

Truth be told though, I could spend much longer wandering around a natural science museum than an art museum.

CC~ I love castles, historic home tours, churches, etc. Looking at art hanging on a wall... not so much.

I enjoy those things too but don't mind art, depending on the style. I could get into studying the brush strokes on impressionist stuff for awhile. I just get a bit of lookie-loo fatigue if we're spending a lot of time on one thing. I'll sometimes get cathedral-fatigue, fancy house exhaustion and temple-burnout like I lose my immediate interest in art. "Yep, yep, arches, flying buttress, uhhuh, again, very stunning....uhm, how would you feel about going for a cup of tea or something?"

I generally mock the people who take selfies CONSTANTLY. They run up to something gorgeous/amazing/famous, to just turn their back to it and pose 15 different ways before they run off to do the same at the next stop on their list. Wtf? Quit making duck lips and the V sign and get out of the way of everyone else trying to look at, or take photos of, the gorgeous thing you're blocking. Also, get off my lawn!

Stand and look at something as in depth as you like. Take photos of whatever strikes your fancy. Take selfies if that's your thing. Just don't be a jerk who gets right in the way of everyone else and camps out. Get in the way and then move aside to give others a chance, then move back. Be respectful of others and it's generally not to hard to get along, even with a crowd.

As for those saying buy a book, print or similar... they generally don't have the one I want! Plus the books get heavy and pricey for just the couple pieces I like. It's generally not the famous masterpieces that makes me smile, but the ridiculous thing that looks like a fat peasant wench from the middle ages riding a cow. THAT'S the one I want to remember!

I cannot imagine how many hours I have spent in museums .. from being privileged to be able to wander the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC , the Louvre in Paris and the D'Orsay ( my fave) and the Modern, in NYC ... and all those small jewels of museums that cities all over the world have ... photos don't bother me, photographers do but taking a photo is low on my crime list. I have more of a problem with loud people .. blabbing away in museums, theatres etc ..
The Art is there for Everyone .. they pay to get in, let them take a photo, without being obstructive to the rest of the viewers.
So many people don't go to museums because they feel like it is not for them .. let them take a f*ing photo lol

Haha, same! I love when I see someone caption one of those types of paintings with something funny online. And those types of things are my favorite memories of some trips. For instance, something like this makes me want to see the painting in person. And this.

Note to self to have some wine and snacks at the Victoria and Albert when I eventually get back to London. That sounds lovely.

One of the ways I have come to really enjoy museums has been to learn about a specific piece or collection in depth before I go and then just see that exhibit. (I visit Northern Va enough to get into DC for Smithsonian museums as much as I choose). I find it much more enjoyable than just wandering through a huge art museum. My favorites are when I hear a piece by Susan Stamberg and can follow up with a visit. And one of my very favorite experiences was seeing Woman In Gold at the Neue Gallerie in NYC on our last visit. All the Klimts were interesting, of course but having seen the movie meant I was moved to tears when I saw the portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer in real life.

I'm not much into banning things.
Flash is not allowed in museums.
This is not something that is on my radar.
I have a lot more things that irritate me more than people enjoying a museum differently than I may choose to do.

I don't disagree with bilboburgler. What's with the photographing your meal? Maybe there are chefs who are flattered by that stuff, but I think it's weird-city.

Color me weird then. But it should be banned because you and presumably bilboburger think it's weird-city?

Yes.

Not really. I posted photos of my amazing food in Cortona Italy yesterday.
Actually, I reshared the photos on Facebook.
According to some, Facebook should be banned.
News from news outlets' FB pages should be banned.
Pets should be banned.
There's a never ending list of ban-worthy topics/ items.

Nah, I don't think it should be banned. I just think people who do it should be shot.

Sorry, I had no idea this would be so controversial. Hey, one of my cousins photographs his morning bowl of Grape Nuts, and I still love him.

It was hurtful. I need to retreat to my safe space.

Ok, that made me laugh, tom42. (Quietly, though; my husband is still sound asleep next to me.)

Always the rebel, I posted my selfie taken in l'Orangerie.
If Fodors bans me from the forums, such is life.

I just don't like the self obsessed who think taking a photo of food is a good idea. I do believe that food should not be advertised especially with anything containing sugar or any addictive content. Taking a photo of something that brings such misery to so many people is frankly disgusting. Look at all the type 2 diabetics around the western world and keep shoving pictures of food in their faces, especially small children why don't you.

Just because you can point a bit of plastic and press a button does not mean you should.

Maybe crazy is where you live???
