We are taking the train to AZ in June. It will take longer then flying but we won't have to drive from Phonix or Las Vegas that cuts down on all the driving. Plus Enterprise offer to buy credit for $1.25 for the offset of the driving the car. I am doing alot to travel more green.

we try to use public transport if available and convenient. if have to rent a car use smallest vehicle that meets our needs. try to walk rather than ride if possible. does not necessarily play a role in deciding where to go. will not pay double to be green. as with everyday life, reduce, reuse, recycle. but, we still have to consider our sanity when traveling and will not decide to be hugely inconvenienced to have a small difference in carbon footprint

EnvironmentallyFriendlyHotels.com should direct some green minded travelers in the right direction.

Unless you plan to walk or bicycle to your destination, your travel is the antithesis of green.

Some like to sav their conscience by checking in to "Green" hotels or resorts. In my experience, many of those were carved out of the places that were better off remaining wild. The people in the busy resorts have less impact on threatened species.

Paying money to someone who will plant trees as a carbon offset is silly. The good option is to create an example that others can follow.

Environmental concerns play a role in where I travel to. I prefer a place with clean air and water and a relatively low chance of getting a communicable disease.

For shame ... using your reply to a thread to link to a blatant advertisement ... even worse when the thread is re carbon footprint and the contents of your ad are the anthesis

It's a good question. I think I live a very green life 50 (or so) weeks a year, but no, I don't plan green travel. I go away once a year, and it is a vacation from everything in my life - spouse excepted. I'd like to think that, on balance, I'm still greener than the average person, even if it seems like an unbalanced way to get there!

This topic is still current after 2 years, I'm glad you restarted it spcfa.

I missed the B&B owner the last time this was up and they're point about staying in a place longer makes sense.

The best way, I've found to deal with the maids and the towels is to just not have them in the room. I'm not in any danger of winning great housekeeping awards but I can manage to get a towel back on the rack and pull the covers over my bed. Although, I understand that part of staying in a hotel for many people is this extra attention. And I pack my own toiletries in my own little bottles. As I did when I was L84Sky.
