? Visa: Iguazu Falls-Argentina to Brazil day trip
Hi all
I am not clear about this-do you or do you not need a $150 visa just to cross over to the Brazil from Argentina to see the falls (of course, this is in addition to park entrance, I understand)
Older posts do not make mention of this fee, and other posts mention that the fee was paid, while other posters seem to have just crossed over-no visa
What is the real situation?
Thanks
Sandy

The short answer is, yes, is you are a U.S. citizen you need a Visa to enter Brazil even for a visit to the falls.
Confusion is not due to the law, which is perfectly clear. It is based on enforcement which is sometimes lax, sometimes strict, and sometimes nonexistent.
The real situation is that you might or might not be able to sneak across the border (no actual sneaking required...some days there is no one to check your papers and other days a taxi driver can slip a little money to the border guards who will look the other way)....while other days you cannot enter Brazil without a valid visa.
You should be forewarned that if you get crosswise with the law for any reason after you have entered Brazil illegally, you will not receive much help from U.S. authorities and will be subject to a heft fine or other penalties.
I recommend getting a Visa if you plan to enter Brazil.

If you would normally need a visa for Brazil then you need to get it no matter how short a time you spend there. A few years ago it was not uncommon for the border controls to let known taxi drivers through for a few hours because they knew they would bring you back. No more.
