Three weeks in Argentina in September
Hello,
I'm planning a trip to Argentina for a family of four (children 17 and 12 years old), in September, for 3 weeks. While I have a tentative itinerary in mind and it includes Patagonia and Ushuaia, I'm still undecided regarding the "risks" that these two directions may involve as far as weather is concerned. Coming to Argentina and then making up our mind regarding the far South and Patagonia isn't an option as I'd like to have most of the activities and stays planned well ahead. Will be happy to hear your thoughts. We are not into tedious hiking or mount-climbing but we do enjoy outdoors, nature and quiet, watching animals, site-seeing (Buenos-Aires, Iguazu and Bariloche area are in plans, of course).

We have yet to make as far south as Ushuaia but it is on our list along with Torres de Paine Perito Merino Glacier etc. We spent some time in Bariloche but it wasn’t our favourite place in Argentina. Not sure about the weather in the far south in September. It won’t be the optimum time. We drove from San Martin de Los Andes to Bariloche in mid October and saw sun rain and driving snow all in one day and then blue skies for the rest of our time in the South.
We got our wildlife fix in Peninsula Valdez. Seeing the Southern Right Whales up close was incredible. We were there in October and I think September is the height of the breeding season. Also saw penguins and elephant seals there but I believe there are better places for penguins.
Some photos and detail of our time there on our blog @ https://accidentalnomads.com/categor...ica/argentina/
The other area I would definitely consider is the north west of the country around Salta which would take anywhere between 4 and 7 days. Incredible scenery, nature and as quiet as it gets. There are usually direct flights between Salta and Iguazu although Aerolineas Argentina’s are notoriously unreliable and we ended up being rescheduled via BA. Something to bear in mind when organising your trip!
