rhkkmk's off Wednesday on 2 spring trips

thank you for all the help i have received on this board.....we leave next tuesday for BA.

i will be reporting on our trip, when time allows, on a thread with the same name as this one, on the asia board, where i spend most of my time.

after my return home i will continue the thread with a full report of our activities, including the wonderful dinner we are expecting to share with the infamous Avrooster.

bob and karen

Ahy chihuaha! Salvenos!
Bob is heading to South America? Call out the Guardia, and alert passport control. The continent will never be the same.

We are jealous. Though we are leaving for Brazil, and missing Argentina on this trip. We would have loved to meet up with Bob & Karen, and a dinner with AV also sounds great.

Have a terrific time and remember: please don't harass the waiters down there.

In BA, I'd say we should call the "Gendarmería", tengohambre.

Should I alert them? Is rhkkmk THAT dangerous?

I'll make sure Bob doesn't harass the waiters, at least while having dinner with us and Punta Lugano, a great friend and a famous TA "destination expert" for Argentina and Uruguay.

Rooster,
You have no idea. When Bob gets there he will not easily be forgotten. And, if something is on the menu, make sure it is available to order. If not, we will have to get Cristina to intervene and sought the whole mess out.

Have a great time. We look forward to meeting you. I told Bob to take a visit to El Sanjuanino, for empanadas. If he brings a few back for us all the better.

I most certainly second your "El Sanjuanino" suggestion for great "native" food. LOL!!!

I absolutely guarantee that if there is a mess, Cristina & DH will make it worse, so.....

Hi Bob and Karen,

Have a great time!!! We're sorry we won't be able to meet up with you in Mendoza but know you will return with fabulous tales and new expert advice for when we travel to Argentina!

tengohambre: is Bob going to drive me crazy?

Should I take some kind of pill, before meeting him for dinner?

Just kidding. It ain't easy to drive me crazier than I am. LOL!!!

As for driving someone crazy, he is well known in these northern parts for just such things. Of course, truth be told, it is a pretty short drive for most of us. And, truth be told, Karen and Bob could not be nicer, warmer people. You will all have a great time.

greetings from asuncion paraguay...karen lived here in the 1950´s so we are seeing how the place has changed....it has grown up and it is a bit more modern, but not much.... and quite honestly it is a bit boring, but i am glad to see it...and she is delighted..

for those who know the usual mugging routine in BA, i received it on saturday morning....we were walking at 10AM behind our hotel and i felt wet on my neck.....and a smell of oil....air conditioners often drop water on you here on the street but it does not smell of oil....karen was 50 feet in front of me and we were almost alone on this street in front of a church....a couple of 40ish people had approached me from the rear....sprayed my entire back side from head to toe with a black oil.... they then tried to approach me with kleenex....i knew immdeiatelhy what was happening and i motioned them away....i wished i had kicked them or pushed them off the curb or even yelled at them.....slow on the reaction....i held my camera tight and gripped my back wallet pocket.....we had just come from the bank also...

lets say i was pissed....get up off the floor gpanda...its not funny and i DID NOT DERSERVE IT....

my clothes are at the cleaners but i suspect they are ruined....

we went into a nice leather store where we were heading and one of the clerks who had just waited on a german couple ran out as they were headed in the direction we had come from....too late the germans got doused and lost about $50...

more later

rhkkmk, sorry to hear that. When I was on one of the Buenos Aires Free walking tours, one couple said this had happened to them as well, although I think their substance was more like bird poop. The walking tour guide said that she heard about this all the time from people on her tours, including one couple who had the misfortune to have this experience twice in one day.

Bob-
I am so sorry to hear about the incident with the scammers. Could you share with us in which neighborhood this occurred? I'm sure you have told us what hotel you were staying at but it is not in this particular thread.

Bob and Karen were staying at the Marriott Plaza, in the area called "Retiro", which is part of what I call "downtown".
