El Boliche de Alberto, obviously, for good grilled meat and the best fries I have ever eaten. Several locations.

Other than that and more sophisticated, the first 3 in TA's ranking: http://tinyurl.com/4vh73ly
I favor El Boliche de Alberto and cannot help with San Martín de los Andes except by giving you TA's ranking: http://tinyurl.com/4nggthb
Have a great time in our South and contact me when you are in BA, if you so desire.

dl, Hola from Buenos Aires,
http://www.expatdailynewssouthameric...patagonia.html
In San Martin de los Andes - from Dancing Molly:
"If you like Patagonian lamb, have dinner at Posta Criolla on Villegas one night. Morning coffee (with cake of course) at Unser Traum and afternoon coffee or tea (more cake of course) at Maroma, both on General Roca."
We followed Dancing Molly's good advice, and had dinner at Posta Criolla: there were 4 of us, and we all loved it.
In Bariloche, we had one dinner at our Inn, Los Juncos, which was lovely, and then Valentine's day Dinner in Llao Llao (I suggest a drink in their open bar area during daylight hours, for the view). Also, we missed this, but would have loved to try it: If you are in Bariloche on a SUNDAY then be sure to visit the Swiss Village for the "curanto" LUNCH. The food is cooked in the ground and is a specialty of the towns and people of the Andes.
In Villa la Angostura, we had a French meal at La Balsas, a Relais et Chateaux (I would save my money for other things) although it was quite lovely and the food good. Otherwise, we just winged it and....so so.
Have a GREAT TIME in Bariloche area.

The owner of my B&B recommended "A Estribor" , in Puerto Manzano, just south of Villa LaAngostura. I had a really delicious meal. It is just off the main highway, and can be tricky to find, but worth it. The lamb is really good.
In San Martin I ate at La Reserva, at Belgrano 940 Tel ( 02972) 4288734.
Hi Marnie... oh how I wish I was there.

I cannot recall the name of the restaurant in San Martin but it was one of a number along the main street serving a regional speciality - BBQ goat. Absolutely delicious. Also if you are into chocolate, then San Martin is the place!

AV, I always respond to your querries. My post, above, in response to dl's question, was: " Also, we missed this, but would have loved to try it: If you are in Bariloche on a SUNDAY then be sure to visit the Swiss Village for the "curanto" LUNCH."
