I just read your entire post, thank you so much. My husband and I are debating about a trip to BA/ Brazil this November/ December. Have been to many places, Thailand last year and were looking for another places with culture, food and beautiful beaches. How would you compare the beaches and people? Have you been to Barcelona- is it similar? Haven't been to Sydney yet, still on our list, just don't have enough time for it this year.

Sweetness, you're welcome. Glad you found my report useful. Brazil is its own world, with a unique culture. Yes I've had the fortune of visiting both Thailand (Bangkok and Phuket) and Barcelona. The beach scene in Rio is very much urban and active, with people on the sand (soccer, volleyboll, etc.) as much as in the water. In many ways Rio is defined by its proximity to the water, in a way that Barcelona is not. In terms of nightlife there are similarities between the two cities, and in Sao Paulo as well, although you need to know where to look. The food in Brazil is great, as long as you are a meat or seafood lover. Go; you'll have a wonderful time. If you have other questions, just ask.
