My brother had a story of a horse in Costa Rica that decided it didn't like its rider, proceeded to slowly kneel down and then roll onto its back to "scrape off the annoying barnacle". Luckily the rider managed to dismount in time.

They then gave that horse to my SIL, an experienced rider.

That sounds so scary. Avoid horses overseas unless you are an experienced rider.

We loved our Odysseys Unlimited tour that began in BA and ended in Santiago. The highlight was the 3 night trip aboard the M/V Via Australis, a small ship that took us to Cape Horn. Torres del Paine is amazing. The tour lasted 18 days (including air). We did the trip last year March/early April and the weather was perfect. We missed the winds that flood Torres del Paine and the crowds.

Maggie68-
That's the trip we'll be taking mid-February - early March.
(Thankfully, there's no horseback-riding on the itinerary.)
Any advice as to what to remember to take - and what NOT to bother taking?
