I want to go to Machu Pichu!

I am going to machu pichu in 2 weeks. I may stay in surrounding areas. Can anyone tell me a good place to stay or any good tour companies I can hook up with?

Also, I really want to explore the sacred valley. I have 3 weeks off, so if anyone has any good clues, let me know! Thanks

I think a good guidebook to Peru would serve you well if your itinerary is this unplanned at this stage. Fodor's does have a book on Peru, and there are others.

http://www.andeantravelweb.com/peru/index.html is a great online travel resource and is kept well up to date

Read some of the trip reports here. If you have 3 weeks you have enough time to visit some other places in Peru.

Try to book your flights to Cusco and your train tickets (Sacred Valley to MP) ahead of time.

Nice hotel in Ollantaytambo is El Albergue. Might also try KB Tambo. Give us your budget and we can be more specific.

Heartily agree with Elizabeth_S about David Choque. DH and I used him for our MP and Sacred Valley trip summer of 2009. He arranged hotels, flights between CUS and Lima, and day trips to places we wanted to see. His English is very good, and he was a pleasure to be with.

One caveat - we had our debit card "skimmed" in the area, so now are very careful about what "banks" we use to get money.

I will be in MP in April and was having a hard time deciding on a place to stay. I think I am going to go for the rupwasi lodge. Most places in agua caliente get mixed reviews with some very negative feedback unless it is one of the really expensive places like Sanctuary or Sumaq. It's only one night so I am taking my chances with this one.

No. If you just want to visit MP itself then you can stay at the town directy below it, Aguas Calientes, and take an easy bus ride up to the site. Or you can stay at nearby town of Ollantaytambo or further away in Cusco and take the train to MP.

>>My honeymoon is gonna be in Dec. We want to look for a nice place that best for newlywed<<

Are you specifically looking at Peru / South America or just any place ofr a honeymoon? If it's the latter then you might want to look at the more standard honeymoon locales like Venice, Paris, Hawaii, etc.

A lot of people go to Peru for special occasions, I'm not sure why Axel would recommend against it.

There are some high end resorts in the Sacred Valley, eg Tambo del Inca, Cusco, and at Machu Picchu/Aguas Calientes (Inkaterra).

Here's a website for Inkaterra as a start
http://www.inkaterra.com/

I would buy the Fodors guidebook and look for the Fodor's Choice hotels!

A honeymoon in Peru, without going to MP?? Oh no, no, no ..... as already suggested you definitely can visit Machu Picchu and not be a hiker. Do choose option to stay in Agua Calientes, or at least Ollantaytambo in order to explore MP. Yeah, it's do-able as daytrip from Cusco however makes for a very long day. Of course, you'll want to spend some time in Cusco.
