Costs for Peru trip

Can anyone give us an idea how much my husband and I should budget for a trip to Peru this fall - not including airfare. We have 3 - 4 weeks and want to do the tourist thing including the ruins, Nazca Lines and Lake Titicaca.

I did my trip with Lost World Adventures. It cost around $1100 per person (hotels, in country flights, private guide and car, a few breakfasts, train trip to Aguas Calientes and MP). My trip was shorter, suggest you visit their website for some ideas. The "group" was my three friends and me. They allow you to shape and control the size of your group and your daily itinerary.

Lost World Adventures planned my Costa Rica trip and my Galapagos trip and did an incredible, wonderful job.

They are currently planning a 10 day Peru trip for me, Cuzco, Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley and the Amazon for early 2007 for around $2300 per person. It includes airport pick-ups and deliveries, lodging, four private guided tours (Lima, Cuzco, Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu), airfares within the country (Lima/Cuzco/Lima and Cuzco/Puerto Moldanado/Cuzco), train/bus to and from Machu Picchu, breakfasts and a few other meals.

We do have some higher-end accommodations included in that price, but Lost World Adventures works with a range of accomodations, so your price could be more or less, depending on your personal preferences.

If you get Holvar as your guide in Cusco and MP you will be thrilled. He was absolutely marvelous. I was very impressed with all the arrangements Lost World did for us in Peru.

I travel on the fly and never book hotels in advance, which can be a bit daring, but I was in Peru for 28 days and only spent $800 total!! We did almost everything, the Nazca Lines were amazing even with motion sickness and also check out ruins outside Cuzco (other than the obvious), Pisaq was great!!

We are going to Peru in August for 3 weeks and are budgeting $1500 per person (excluding flights). This includes a stay at the Monasterio in Cusco, our 4 day inca trail and flights over the Nazca lines. It should also include transport and accommodation in relatively good standard hotels. Obviously we could do it cheaper, but we like a bit of luxury when we're on holiday!

Cailin, That is an amazingly low price for 3 weeks. I would appreciate your sharing the specifics of the trip, including itinerary, costs, etc. Many thanks.

OK, when I convert it from Euro to Dollars, it's actually working out at about $1650 per person and doesn't include spending money for food/souveniers. Our itinerary hasn't been finalised yet either so I've just approximated some of the prices so you can get an idea. Also, they're all priced in Euro I'm afraid! And the prices are for two people.

Day 1 - arrive in Lima, stay at Hotel Antigua Miraflores (includes free airport transfer for booking via their website) - €62
Day 2 - bus to Pisco €20, taxi to Paracas €5, stay at Hotel Paracas €82
Day 3 - taxi to Paracas €5 bus to Ica €12, taxi to Huachachina €5, stay at Hotel Mossone €78.50
Day 4 - fly over Nazca lines from Ica €236, stay at Hotel Mossone €78.50
Day 5 - taxi to Ica €5, overnight bus from Ica to Arequipa €49
Day 6 - stay at Arequipa Casa €43
Day 7 - stay at Arequipa Casa €43
Day 8 & 9 - either a guided tour, or DIY trip to Colca Canyon - approx €250
Day 10 - bus to Puno €30, stay in Puno - nowhere decided yet, expect to pay about €50
Day 11 - overnight on Isla Taquile - not exactly sure of price yet, expect to pay about €50
Day 12 - bus to Cusco €18, stay in Cusco, nowhere decided yet, expect to pay about €50
Day 13 - stay in Cusco, nowhere decided yet, expect to pay about €50
Day 14 - day trip to Sacred Valley, nowhere decided yet, expect to pay about €50
Day 15, 16, 17 & 18 - Inca Trail €580
Day 18 - Stay in Hotel Presidente in Aguas Calientes €47
Day 19 - Stay in the Monasterio in Cusco - €385
Day 20 - flights to Lima €280, taxi from airport to hotel €15, stay at second home peru - €73
Day 21 - spend day in Lima, fly home.

We are doing similar trip and thought Hotel Colon Inn in Puno looks nice and is in your price range. Also we are doing a Zarate that will drive you arequipa to colca valley and then to Puno so that you don't have to back track to Arequipa first. for us it was $172 for 2 days 1 night but we are 4 so it may be higher.
do you think seconde home sounds nice?

The Zarate sounds very interesting. Who have you booked that with?

I do think Second Home sounds good. Their website is www.secondhomeperu.com if you want to take a look.
