How to get the best deal on long-distance bus tickets

There are several online options for booking long-distance bus tix in Argentina but I was wondering if it would be more cost effective to exchange my USD at the blue rate, then buy the tix in person at the bus terminal? The online fare from BA to Iguazu is 20,700 ARS. At the official rate that's almost $110. If a little footwork will save me 50%, I will gladly make my booking at Retiro. Is this not recommended?

We have travelled all over Argentina , almost exclusively by bus. It will definitely be more cost effective (i.e. half the cost ) to book in person using pesos exchanged at the Blue $ rate. it takes a little time and effort get to the bus station or bus company office but well worth it.If you want to go first/VIP/Ejecutivo class then just be aware that those seats (and they are well worth the extra cost) probably need booking a few days in advance.

NB a very recent development in the conversion at the blue dollar rate is that both Visa and MasterCard now use the Blue Dollar rate (at least in theory!). For some people it seems to be a relatively seamless process but some have experienced problems getting the BD. Check with your CC provider in advance.
