Getting from Copacabana to GIG - help!
Hello Fodorites,
I'll be visiting Rio next month (I can't wait!) and although I've got most things sorted out, I would like your advice about how to get from my hotel in the Copacabana area to the international airport (GIG).
As a single woman, what do you recommend? I shall be travelling pretty light and need to arrive at the airport by about 7pm on a weekday.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Sandy

Going from GIG to Copacabana I (single woman) took the bus. Going the other way I took a taxi, but it was a Sunday morning and the route is different on Sundays.
This site looks to have good info:

I would take a regular yellow taxi. Should be about R$60. Look for the name and phone number of the cooperative it belongs to, painted on the back fender; these are known entities.
The frescao bus is fine from the airport, and you could try to catch it along its route back to the airport, but it has been reported by many to be a bit difficult to do (because there are no assigned stops). If you're standing out there for too long (and get nervous about time), flag a taxi.
