Drive or Get Driven? Santiago > Valparaiso
We're spending a few days in Valparaiso (between time in Patagonia & Atacama) and wondering about t the drive. It doesn't look long or dangerous, and parking seems slim in Valparaiso. Wondering if anyone has done that drive, and if there is reason to rent a car (more freedom to stop on the drive) or be driven (no hassle and potentially more relaxing).
Many thanks in advance!

There are pros and cons for both options. If you drive you can stop along the way. You go through the Casablanca wine valley and it is possible to stop for a tasting (not for the driver, though!) or to have lunch on the way. Many vineyards have restaurants and there are a couple of good restaurants not connected to vineyards on the way.
A car is not that much use once you are in Valparaíso. Parking is difficult and it is primarily a walking city anyway. A walking tour is the best way to see it. There is a commuter train between Valparaíso and Viña del Mar beside it if you want to explore a bit.
The drive is on a modern highway (toll) and is certainly not dangerous.

Thanks so much. I think we're going to have a driver. Given the time of day/night we'll be traveling, a direct shot to/from makes the most sense.
We don't go until December, but I'll post a trip report!
Thank you.
