Cajamarca

It's decided. Then hopefully to Celendin, Leymabamba, Chachapoyas, Abra Patricia and Huembo.
It does sound like the road from Cajamarca to Leymabamba is in pretty good shape.

I have a return ticket from Cajamarca to Lima using some remaining LAN miles. Of course I will be spending time in Lima at the end..with a visit or two to Mistura.

Now if only there were some trip reports on Fodor's. Not a single one!

Sounds like an interesting journey. If only I hadn't booked flights back to Lima from Bogota!

The road between Cajamarca and Leymebamba is in good shape, but it is closed most of the day. It is open only between 12 and 13h00 and then again between 6 and 7 pm, but this might change. If you go by bus, there is no problem.

Cajamarca is a great place. If you need some more information, have a look at www.phimavoyages.com. They have several pages about Cajamarca and what to see in the surroundings.

Phima is it one location that is closed for road works? Or are they doing a big stretch? I was going to spend the night in Celendin each way, so it would help to know me if you know where the blockage is located?

Gracias.

I was in Cajamarca in the early 1990s and enjoyed the trip, we combined it with a visit to Chan Chan and Trujillo if I remember rightly. No trip report because it's just too long ago sorry I can't be more help! WE really enjoyed that part of Peru.

Thanks wtb. It sounds from reading so far that it is somewhere I'd like.

I am waiting to hear back from the Owlet birding lodge that's opened up between Chachapoyas and Tarapoto before I more or less finalize my itinerary.

All I know so far is I plan to stay one or more nights in Cajamarca, Celendin, Leymabamba and the Owlet Lodge, and then go back to Cajamarca.

Hopefully the rains don't start in earnest by the beginning of September!

Hello,

I just saw your message now. I am not sure, but I thought it is close to Balsas that the road is closed, as they work on a new bridge...

I'll try to find out more about it and let you know.
