Will be in Buenos Aires for a few days pre cruise. Looking at a nice place to celebrate my wife's birthday. Even though the city is known for beef, it is not an essential requirement for dinner that night. Read reviews for Casa Cruz and La Cabana; is anyone familiar with these two places? Any other restaurants that you recommend.

Before dinner, we will likely have a Bloody Mary (incredible) in the Lobby Bar of the ALvear Hotel (La Bourgogne is located in that hotel, too).

Beef in BsAs tends to be leaner healthier

as it is pamapas fed not force fed with corh like in the US

to increase body fat... many great parillas there.

some US palates want higher fat taste...so be careful there

Qwo is living in the past.

Beef production methods have changed in Argentina. And not for the better. Many restaurants now serve feed lot fattened beef, just like in the U.S. Some still offer meat cut from steers raised on the lush grasses of the Pampas, but you will need to ask.

If you are foodies, I would recommend Tomo I or La Bourgogne. For steak, El Mirasol de la Recova is hard to beat for a celebration. I have never been to Pura Tierra but have heard good things about it.

Thanks so much for the suggestions. Have been to Buenis Aires a few years ago and ate at Sucre and loved it. Having trouble opening the website for casa-cruz,getting pictures of animals!!
Concerning steak, which would you sugggest: La Cabana,Cabana Las Lilas (ate here, and even though it has a reputation of be very touristy, had an excellent meal), or El Mirasol de Rocova?

For me, rogfam, El Mirasol was one of the best meals (not French) that I have ever had. Our friends from France felt that way, too.

Maybe you could have a Birthday Week and try them all ?

Great idea, Marnie! We can meet for dinner and share a bottle of Luigi Bosca Reserva with our steak. We can invite Mrs. Rooster to join us. She enjoys a copa now and again, even if her husband does not.

Lets not meet at Sucre, though...I was very disappointed in the quality the last time I was there...this after several stellar meals five or six years ago....

Guia Oleo reviewers agree that El Mirasol is a great steak house....it is rated much more highly than Las Lilas.

It is chilly and snowy in WDC (and it's not even Halloween yet !) so BsAs is calling to us........

It's snowny in NY right now and wish I was in BsAs! Marnie,if my wife would have her way it would be a Birthday Month!!!We have two nights there before we board our ship and another night before we sail. Really think that BsAs is great after spend an entire week there...so we're back!!

Cabaña Las Lilas and La Cabaña are tourist traps, the way I see it.

As far as I can remember, I shave every morning, unlike your obedient subordinate drdawggy! LOL!!!

As far as dress code is concerned, I do NOT own a suit and only have a blue blazer in my closet. I believe I have a pair of blue jeans somewhere, but I'm pretty sure they don't have the fashion-required holes in them. Maybe I'll let my dogs play with them for a while, so they qualify! LOL!!!!

BTW, our dear "Chiqui" (our German Shepherd bitch) has been diagnosed with the "ugly C", so you may not enjoy the privilege of meeting her again.

My post about a local friend who went to the Alvear with jeans with holes in them was about my friend the Rugby coach. He wore jeans and sandals to the brunch. He does not shave every day either. Jeans with holes and stubble are fashionable.
