Hello, we will be in San Pedro befor busing to Salta. Are there ATMs to withdraw U.S. Dollars in order to change on blue market in Salta? We are thinking $2000 as we will be in Argentina for 5-6 weeks.

We were travelling in teh opposit direction from Argentina into Chile but I am pretty sure that ATMs do not issue US$ in Chile. You should be able to get US$ at a Cambio there, but at what rate is anyone's guess as I imagine theiy will be in great demand!

Are you going to Bolivia or Peru before Argentina ? If so, they would be the best places to get US$ from ATMs

Thanks, Crellston. We will be in Bolivia before heading to San Pedro from Uyuni and then on to Salta. Our trail takes to La Paz, Sucre, Tupiza. Do you know the ATM limits in Bolivia?

As I recall the limits were $300 per day. Fortunately we had several cards with us so it wasn't too much a of a problem. One thing I would advise is NOT to withdraw cash on a Friday or Saturday. The machines were invariably empty - presumably because it is pay day?

Banco Nacional de Bolivia was our preferred choice. They will also change Bolivianos into $ - at least they did in Sucre.

We didn't have too many problems but I would start withdrawing as soon as you can and at every opportunity, just in case!

No ATMs in Chile dispense anything other than Chilean pesos. There aren't that many ATMs in San Pedro and they can empty after a long weekend. There may be a daily cap on how much you can get out, not sure, there is for local cards. I think one of the banks will give you pesos against your credit card, but not sure which one or how much. Someone there will know. You can buy dollars in San Pedro.
