Hello all!

I'm looking for some tips regarding my upcoming honeymoon in Buenos Aires. We will be staying for 3 weeks from July to August.

So far.. the flight is booked, and we've booked an apartment in Palermo as our 'base' for the 3 weeks.

I'd like to go to Iguazu, El Calafate and Mendoza. Any thoughts on tours to book or is it best to just wander on our own? Any tips on contacts or how we should go about planning this? We're not sure how long we need to stay in each destination, or what to expect. Is that too many destinations, should we knock one out so that we've got some time to explore Buenos Aires? Restaurants, hotel recommendations, must sees?.... any advice?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated!

Congratulations! Palermo is a wonderful neighborhood and a great place to use as a base for Buenos Aires. In Buenos Aires you should take in an evening tango show. In general there are two types of tango shows: larger shows with dinner and a more intimate cabaret style show. I recommend the more intimate style for a honeymoon. Another must do is to visit the San Telmo market. The bicycle tours in BA (particularly up to the Tigre River Delta)are also fun and you don't have to be a cyclist to keep up.

El Calafate and Iguazu are must sees. I recommend two nights in Iguazu Falls and at least three nights in El Calafate. Don't miss a Perito Moreno Glacier tour or visiting Estancia Cristina in El Calafate. The Estancia Cristina experience is spectacular. You take a catamaran across Lago Argentino in the morning, past glaciers and icebergs to a hidden Estancia where you can hike and explore. You can also spend the night there, although it is expensive. Definitely worth it for a honeymoon splurge.

Mendoza is also great if you enjoy wine tasting. Some cool options are to stay at a winery for a night or take a horseback riding winery tour if you are feeling adventurous.

I agree, don't miss Iguazu, absolutely amazing. Two nights are enough there. As much as we have enjoyed visiting Calafate and Mendoza, it will be winter when you go, so you might want to check to see what's open. An alternative would be to visit the Northwest - Salta/Pumamarca, which would still be nice a warm at that time of the year.

We've used a local travel agent for all our trips - Argentina Escapes and have been very pleased with the service/price.

I understand that it will be winter in July, is it quite cold or is it comfortable? In terms of packing, what would I require for my time in BA, Iguazu and El Calafate? Will I be needing winter clothing?

July in Buenos Aires requires a warm coat .. most everyone wears boots, warm coats or jackets and scarves. I wear gloves because my hands are never warm in winter.
All the walking outdoors on hard sidewalks and some under heated old buildings will chill you .. I love winters here .. more than Summer actually. They are usually always bright and sunny and crisp ..
