If you do decide to stay in Barranco and like steak etc. then two places I would highly recommend are La Cuadra de Salvador Steakhouse on the corner of Jnr. Centenario and Avenida Grau , great food and a wonderful outdoor setting in what was the old Casa Cor. Only been open a couple of months but really good. The other is the long established El Cortijo. Spacious, elegant with fantastic old style service and great food.

Do eat at Astrid y Gaston in Lima!!! I had their tasting menu which was ten courses over a 3-4 hour period for about $50. Sublime.
I think the Parakit... hotel linked above was one I walked by on the way to the train station. It looked gorgeous. I stayed at the hotel right AT the station and it was lovely but my needs are lower.
