Where to rent an apartment in BA

My husband and I are going to rent an apartment through apartmentsba.com for 11 days in Oct. I have narrowed it down to 4, I was hoping some of you well heeled BA travelers might have some input on the addresses...we were recommended to stay
either in Recoleta or very close...and I like that idea as it is very central.
Here are the addresses: Ayacucho/Vincent Lopez , Pueyrredon/Barrientos, Agueno/Las Heras, or Las Heras/Sanchez de Bustamante.
We like to walk , love to eat ,shop, and live like the locals....I like street fairs and markets and people watching...culture and trying to speak Spanish! I dont want to be on a really noisy street, all apartments have nice terraces with great views.

Also we were thinking of Iguazu as a daytrip, but were told by a BA local its very touristy and they suggested Calafate (for the glaciers) and to stay at Altavista Estancia. Also Peninsula de Valdez for whale watching .

We were recommende Estancia La Ernestina for a daytrip from BA.

Hows this sound to all you knowledgeable travelers ? (And expats and local;s!)

Thanks!

Pougal:

I assume you have duly researched the rental firm you have chosen.

Ayacucho/V. López is in the heart of the Recoleta, the others are nearby. There is a LOT of traffic noise anywhere near Las Heras or Pueyrredón. Did you tell ApartmentsBA you don't want a noisy street?

Iguazú is NOT a day trip. You need AT LEAST one night, but two would be better.

Of course Iguazú is touristy, but you can say the same for El Calafate or P. de Valdez.

I have to wonder how anyone can suggest El Calafate and P. de Valdez as non-touristy and Estancia la Ernestina (about 2.000 miles away) as a day trip.

Would you care to share with this forum who gave you such misinformation?

Have a great time in our country.

Hi, ApartmentsBA gets quite a lot of good reviews, I think you will be happy. We have friends who rented with them not long ago and everything went well for them.
As long as they are the managers of the apartments... be sure that they also are the managers.

I live in Recoleta, I think if the apartment is on Ayacucho, and not Vicente Lopez, you will be ok. VLopez is a very busy street.
, Pueyrredon/Barrientos, Again, if the apartment is on Barrientos.. it is a great location. It overlooks parks and is in the middle of all sorts of cafes and restaurants and very easy to get anywhere in town from that location.
Agueno/Las Heras, Is that a typo? Do you mean Aguero? Las Heras is a terribly noisy busy street, I would not want to be very close and that would be the same with the Sanchez apt.
If you have links, post them, it is easier to tell where the apts are located if we can see the apt and map.

Iguazu is a wonder of the world sort of place and if you can go there, do so! I think you need to stay overnight though.

Post the links of apartments that you like and let us help you that way- you have named some really noisy addresses

Thanks avrooster and Scarlett...Really great info...where do you recommend renting...now I'm havin second thoughts about the ones I liked...I was told being in Recoleta was best , but as long as its fairly central ( we dont mind walking abit)
safe and somewhat quiet...what do you recommend for ideal location (street)? the 2 i really like ..one on Ayacucho between Junin and Callao Ave. one block over from Vlopez, the other I really like is close to Pueyrredon and Pacheco deMelo(I cant seem to find Barrientos on the map). I certainly would like it to not be too noisy but I also would trade off abit for location and the view as both have beautiful terraces. I 'll email the agent..burt I could also look into Palermo if there is s certain area that is highly recommended.
As for "day trips" I like the sound of Calafate...we could stay for 2 nights, or Mendoza for one night...I would do an estancia as a DAY trip...

Again, thanks!

If the apt is ON Ayacucho between Guido and Vicente Lopez, it is ok...that is where we were, can't ask for better location for first timers. Everything seems to be right around the corner.. including the Rodi Bar :- )

Barrientos is between Pacheco de Melo and Peña and it starts at Pueyrredon and curves to the right around to Peña .. very very good location... there is someone that works for the government who lives in that block, there is 24 hour police security, a fenced in beautiful park and a row of restaurants and cafes. Excellent location.

Hello,

Yes I agree with Scarlett... the area is very nice but there are some very noisy main streets... if possible avoid apartments that are on Avenida Las Heras, Santa Fe, Scalabrini Ortiz, Avenida Libertador, Coronal Diaz and Pueyrredon! You should also consider Palermo... it borders Recoleta and also has a lot to offer!

Regarding apt location, I agree with everyone.
But as for Iguazú, the recommended length of stay is of 1-2 nights but a daytrip is also feasible, it is NOT highly recommended but if you don't have enough time and still want to see this amazing destination you can do so. Check this out, just for you to know how a daytrip would work, this is a review from a couple who used WOW Argentina's services for their daytrip: http://www.intltravelnews.com/2006/0...-trip-from-ba/
If you are considering going to P. Valdes, you will be lucky since you will be able to do whale watching. Here is a link of the fauna calendar: http://www.puertopiramides.gov.ar/tu...o-calendar.htm

I hope all this info helps you! Have a nice trip!
