Yorktown/Jamestown
I would like to check out Yorktown & Jamestown in April. Staying one night. We've done CW many times and are not interested in doing that THIS trip. Any suggestions on hotels (under $100 if possible.) Thanks.

you might want to drive over the bridge from yorktown to Gloucester. 15 miles down route 17 is a Comfort Inn which you might get a deal at. For a B&B experience check out the inn at Warner Hall - authentic old plantation, www.warnerhall.com

virginiagirl, If you're interested in staying in the Wmbg area for your night, I'd take a look at the Days Inn Travelodge Historic Area. It's the one on By-Pass Road and is a cut above your typical Days Inn. Rooms there are always under $100. There's also a La Quinta accross the street from the DI. Both of these places get a triple diamond rating from AAA so you have gauge of relative quality. Other than those two, I'd suggest you look at Quality Inn and Suites and Hampton Inn. Rooms there run slightly above $100 but they often run specials.
Recommend you make your booking as soon as feasible. April is spring break time in Wmbg. It's not exactly a stampede but things are busy especially on the weekends (daytrippers and Busch Gardens is open).
I hope that rb_traveller checks in here as he knows the hotels in town well and will certainly have some good recommendations for you.

There are two "Jamestowns" to see, one being more expensive, but with costumed interpreters/reenactors. That one was within 2 hours of closing time when I went there, so I didn't visit. I went to the other (the "original") years ago and wasn't very interested in it ... but I wasn't as interested in history back then (>20 yrs ago) as now.
I also found Yorktown Battlefield rather unappealing. Had there been some reenactments, my opinion may have changed, but just looking at a bunch of fields and hills, and knowing that "something happened here" doesn't excite me much (I feel similarly about Saratoga National Battlefield near here). But I did enjoy walking from Yorktown Battlefield down to the town, and along the waterfront. The Watermans' Museum was interesting.
I visit Williamsburg for long weekends several times a year, and always learn new things about it. I would imagine that for any visits to Jamestown, it's likely you'll end up staying in or near Williamsburg. The Days Inn obxgirl writes of is a well-maintained property. Most of the chain hotels on ByPass Road and Richmond Road are reasonably priced and look to be in good shape. The Sleep Inn was where I stayed one night last fall while those I traveled with to Wbg stayed there for a week -- it's one of the newer properties on ByPass Rd. I think that demand drives up the prices of the hotels to the east of Wbg, with Busch Gardens and the water-park bringing in visitors. If Yorktown will be the focus of your visit, you might want to consider lodging nearer to Newport News.
Also consider visiting some of the plantations along Rt 5. Richmond has a number of historical sites as well.

We usually stay at the Hampton Inn and Suites on Richmond Road and would recommend. Have always been pleased with our stay. Hotel is clean and well kept. I looked up their prices (they do vary) for April and it seems to run $109-$119 (Less if you have AAA). That does include a continental breakfast which is a nice way to start your day. Of course this is closer to Williamsburg than Yorktown so don't know if this really helps.
