Florida in September ??
Hi
Anyone know what type of weather in beginning of September for the Fort Lauderdale ? Miami area ?? I have heard it is miserable with lots of "sand flea's" please help because if that is the case we would try for another time. I notice the hotel rates are almost half from high season ...
Many Thanks

The No-See-Ums (sand fleas) are more prevalent in the areas with mangroves. You shouldn't have any problems with them in the more populated areas or on boat trips.
You should be able to get a fantastic rate on hotel rooms after school starts in September. Check out BiddingForTravel.com to see what types of deals you can get on good hotel rooms. Try the Ft Lauderdale Beach Resort category and you'll get the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort. Great place!

oops, I forgot to address your weather question. It's quite hot here in South Florida. However, there are plenty of air conditioned restaurants & shops to duck into when you get overheated. The Water Taxi in Fort Lauderdale is a great way to see the beautiful homes along the waterway and get to other parts of Lauderdale.

South Florida is very very hot the beginning of September. There is a little edge taken off the humidity but still very hot and humid.
We were in South Beach this past fall and I swear the water temp was 90 degrees.
The only time you need a sweater is for the AC.

I was not suggesting that a hurricane would hit in September, only that it was peak season. Chances in one occuring are slim, but still there in September. I would not let it hinder my plans in the summer be it Kennebunkport to Key West.

Not to throw a big damper on things, but since we're talking about hurricanes, September IS the biggest month for them historically speaking. And even when one doesn't hit, one going by the state off the coast, or even into the Gulf below Miami will still cause bad weather for several days to a week. Again, the chances aren't great of one, but September has the highest odds for them. The best thing is you have a lot of warning. My advice is to simply have a backup plan and not get into any weeklong reservations that have to be prepaid and can't be cancelled!! There's nothing worse then heading to Miami for a week long trip which is all prepaid IF the week looks doomed by bad weather.

Yes, September is the height of hurricane season. However, you shouldn't let that have any effect on your vacation plans. The chance of a hurricane hitting while you are here is slim. Yes, you could experience rain and wind if a storm passes nearby, but that's no different than the time we took a road trip to Cape Cod from South Florida and it rained through the entire trip...bummer, yes; however, we still had fun!
And yes, it will be hot and humid. However, that's the nature of Florida. Hey, I went to Toronto in July a few years back and it was just as hot as it was in Florida...and the A/C broke down in most of the hotel (including my room!) I still had fun - outsided the hotel!
You can never predict a perfect vacation. All you can do is decide to make the best of whatever Mother Nature gives you.
