We're planning another trip to Japan and debating about whether to purchase a JR rail pass. Does anyone know of a site that offers up-to-date information on Japan rail schedules including fares for both Green and Economy cars? I've looked at the JR fare calculator, but it seems to only have economy fares.

What is your itinerary? Some regional passes are useful but in general the nationwide JR passes are not a good value anymore.

You can get green car prices at the JR West site if you travel includes JR West trains.

Note that there is always a supplement fee to the "Basic fare" for limited express and shinkansen trains.

Calling the seating 'economy' in ordinary cars doesn't do it justice. The seats are comfortable.

Thank you so much, mrwunrfl. This one: Route Search - Japan Transit Planner | Norikae Annai is precisely the tool I was hoping to find! After plugging in some of the routes we're considering, it looks like we'll pass on the JR Pass. It's much too expensive and having to tack on additional expenses to travel on the Nozomi doesn't make any sense.
