Small Town in Kentucky?

Good day. We are taking a road trip that will take us through southern Kentucky. We enjoy small towns that have little shops, including antique, that are in a beautiful scenic area. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Someone mentioned Bardstown KY and we are looking into that but know little about it.

Moved from Road Trips to the United States Forum and tagged for Kentucky. Also added Kentucky to the title.

My late DH was from Western Kentucky and he and his parents, aunt and uncle
took to the road on "Great Kentucky Tour" in the 1980s. My most vivid memories are of our Shakertown tour:

and the college town, Berea (we stayed in the college):

We visited a brewery, saw the My Old Kentucky Home" show (in Bardstown?), drove around the horse farms around Lexington, and the Horse Museum near Lexington. The state parks were fabulous... one could plan hotel stays around them. Our trip was 40 years ago so do double check! And please share your experiences in this wonderful state!
