Trip insurance for 11 days in AK

I'm currently looking at trip insurance. We're 68 & 70, in very good shape, doing a kayaking/hiking trip. We'll be in Juneau, Gustavus, and Haines. Just curious about the cost of emergency evacuation from places like Gustavus and Haines and what adequate insurance coverage should be. Thanks in advance.

When you say evacuation, do you mean:

a) transportation the nearest adequate medical facility, or
b) transportation back home, or to another facility of your choice?

In my experience, medical evacuation generally means a. not b.

I would start with looking at what my existing insurance did/did not cover, then look at insure my trip dot com for a trip policy.

It it also my experience that travel insurance covers a lot of things, which is good if you need the coverage, but can drive up the cost if you do not. Policies tend to be based on the total insured value of the trip. I have not come across a policy just for medical/evac. It's something I've tried to find, but with no success.

Medjet is a well known med Evac only insurer. Prices are reasonable.

In the past, when I've wanted to know typical costs for medical evacuation from specific places, I've either (a) googled it or (b) called insuremytrip.com to see if they can provide an estimate. If you haven't already tried those options, they might be worthwhile.
