8 Days for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island

Would 8 days be enough, driving in mid-August, for a taste of Halifax and surrounds, southern Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island? Yes, I know, that's ridiculously short but . . . We are primarily interested in scenic, historical sights and locales.
And in terms of scenery, history and possible charming small villages does it make sense to follow the coastal highway southeast from Halifax around the island and then through Trure and on to Charlottetown ... or ... skip all that driving and head due north from Halifax to Prince Edward Island?
And would it matter, since time is so short, to skip Cape Breton Island altogether in favor of PE Island?
A world of thanks if you can advise us!

Dietger,

Wow a ton of driving you can spend the entire 8 days in NS and not see it all you have planned just for NS.

I posted a lot of information on PEI on the link below, check it out you can fill the entire 8 days on the island doing what you like and perhaps even some time relaxing…..lol.

Halifax and PEI

It’s about 4-5 hour drive from Halifax to PEI. Use Google maps to give you an idea of time needed. Do not forget to add time to stop and see the sites, enjoy a meal, and rest to the Google time indicated.

If after reviewing the link let us know if you have any questions.

Enjoy your trip.

Tom

"driving" ?

Does that mean you are, say, setting off from some spot in the USA or (maybe Ontario) and needing some of the 8 days to first reach the area?

OR does it mean flying to Halifax and "driving" from there and back to there?

That is important information because you would then appropriately let your necessities guide your itinerary.

IF driving from, say, Maine... you would pause and see a handful of sights on the path in, because you have to be near enough to them anyway.

IF flying to Halifax and then driving... well then you yourself need to select your own greatest priorities, and point in that direction.

"southeast from Halifax" is something else that needs clarification.

Most of what is "southeast from Halifax" is {Atlantic Ocean}.

While Mahone Bay and Lunenburg are pleasant short trips from Halifax, I would strongly suggest lower-prioritizing anything southwest of Lunenburg.

Anyway, if you click on my name, there are many responses to many trip-planners to the Maritimes over the years.

Maybe something there will overlap what you have in mind, with very useful detail provided once (Fodors) has a sense for just how you will be approaching the area.
